Lillypost July 2021 Review
Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month they shared some great summer fun ideas!
Do Lions Go Moo? by Make Believe Ideas, Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99
Our first book is a fun, silly book with these pull-out tabs to add some tactile fun to our reading. My kids all enjoyed the interactiveness of it and while it wasn't much of a story, it was a cute and engaging read that asks kids silly questions like whether socks go on your hands or if lions go moo. Cute, silly, and fun, perfect for a young reader with a short attention span!
A New Kind of Wild by Zara Gonzalez Hoang - Retail Value $17.99 (on sale for $14.99)
Ren lived in a magical world filled with color and sound thanks to the lush, vibrant plants and the unique animals that inhabited them. In this place, he could imagine and play and let his creativity run wild, but when he moves to the city, he finds everything is too loud, too fast, and not full of the wonder and color he is used to. He feels out of place until his neighbor, Ava, shows him this new world through her eyes. He discovers that while it may be different from the world he came from, there is still beauty and wonder, and plenty of sound and color in this new kind of wild. The story explores the ideas of loneliness, friendship, empathy, and homesickness in such a simple, relatable way, and it was such a sweet portrayal of kindness as Ava showed concern for Ren. This is a great book to share with a child who may be moving or has just moved to a new place with plenty of beautiful illustrations to support the great theme!
Max at Night by Ed Vere - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $10.59)
My daughter really loves this book and I thought it was pretty cute! I love the style of the illustrations which are both simple and exciting. Poor Max is all ready for bed and oh so sleepy, but he can't sleep until he says goodnight to the moon. When he heads outside, he can't seem to find the moon and he goes in search of it asking everyone he meets if they have seen it. The story is cute and sweet as Max climbs higher and higher to get to the moon. This is a great book for bedtime with the calming illustrations and the premise of saying goodnight!
Dino World Activity Book by Make Believe Ideas, Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99 (found here for $6.00)
This month we received a fun bonus book that I knew my kids would love! This dinosaur-themed activity book is filled with fun pages and a whole sheet of over 100 puffy dino stickers! We took this on vacation with us and it proved to be such a great book to occupy the kids from coloring to 'spot the difference' pages and even some math activities. There were so many different things for them to work on in the car and since this book is pretty big, there were plenty of pages that made it easy to share.
My son loved the pages with the punch-out dinos that you could assemble to stand up. It was the perfect activity to do while we waited for lunch one day at the restaurant.
Verdict: This was such a great group of books Lillypost this month and I really loved the bonus book (as did my kids!). The range in books was perfect for kids of different ages and reading levels. I loved that we had some silly fun with our board book, but also had a more serious story with "A New Kind of Wild." These different books will add some diversity to our book collection for sure! As for the value, we were at $44.97 before the bonus book ($54.96 with!), so I think that's pretty great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the August box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!
Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:
- Do Lions Moo?: $4.53
- A New Kind of Wild: $8.15
- Max at Night: $7.69
- Dino World: $4.53
