Atlas Crate is one of the best subscription boxes for kids from parent company KiwiCo. This box is designed to spark the curiosity and sense of adventure in children ages 6-11 and help them become citizens of the world. Each month Atlas Crate will deliver materials and instructions to provide hands-on experiences to help kids develop their sense of cultural awareness.

This review is of KiwiCo’s Atlas Crate (for ages 6-11), which costs $19.95 per month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

This month's box was all about Ireland and both activities involved some art so I knew my daughter would appreciate working on these projects. Ireland is a country I've always wanted to visit, so I was eager to learn a little bit, too!

Let's see how it went!

What's Inside This Box

This little envelope contains a sticker for the country we are visiting that we can add to our Adventure Book from our first box as well as several colorful cards full of information about the country. There are facts, photos, and even some "Do" cards that usually contain a recipe and some sort of extra craft or instructions for a dance. This month it was instructions on how to dance the Irish Step and a recipe for Soda Bread.

My daughter was especially intrigued by the idea of Fairies!

Activity #1: Harp

The first project was to make a harp which is a traditional instrument in Ireland.

They provided several wooden pieces with designs on them, zip ties, rubber bands, and some colored pencils to use for coloring them in.

Here is her finished harp.

Now her harp was ready to play!

Activity #2: Celtic Knot

The next activity is one that I had fun with as well, we were drawing our own Celtic knots.

They provided a black marker, some tracers, and a little notebook to draw our designs in. Some pages were blank, but there was a little template for us to use at the front.

Here is how it turned out! I did have to help her hold it down a little, but she got the hang of it!

Next, it was time to color in her knot with the colored pencils we received in our box.

Here is her knot colored in. I tested out a mini knot design and thought it was a fun process! It can definitely be a great challenge for older kids, too!

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $19.95 per month + free shipping. Save with longer subscriptions.

Value Breakdown:

This month we learned all about some different aspects of Ireland, received a recipe for Soda Bread, and learned how to dance and Irish Step. We also had some fun building a harp and playing it, and even got to be artistic with our Celtic knot designs. I loved that everything was included which made for a great experience and a great value!

Key Takeaways

Atlas Crate always finds a way to pique our interest in all of these new countries with the information that they share. The materials are always engaging and the crafts themselves are easy enough to complete since they provide such thorough instructions. It's a great way to learn about new cultures while having fun!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Atlas Crate is my favorite Kiwi Co sub so far. My daughter loves it and it’s such a good value. We’re only 6 crates in but looking forward to a long subscription with this one.
