First Impressions
Up until now, we have also been receiving this informative pamphlet featuring all of the items that could possibly be included in your Walmart Beauty Box but this season's pamphlet showed only the specific items included in the box. It also stated we would be receiving five products (last season we received six). Interesting...
Real Techniques Sponge - Retail Value $4.66
As a teen, I struggled with severe acne, which has led me to a life-long friendship with foundation. I have tried multiple application tools in the past but always slink back to using my fingers. That being said, I wanted to give this Real Techniques Sponge a try, and after watching the video tutorial on the Real Techniques website I learned how to successfully use it. While I didn’t notice a huge difference in my makeup application per se, I did like how well it blended my makeup into my hairline and neck. Another perk - my hands were left relatively clean afterward! A fun inclusion that has proved to be quite useful.
Thanks to Neutrogena SkinClearing foundation my skin behaves a bit better than it used to in my teens, though I still struggle at least once a month. Pairing that with the Real Techniques sponge proved to be effective and cleaner, a win on all accounts!
Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser - Estimated Value $1.46 (Buy a 6 oz container for $8.76)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I am a fan of pretty much anything from Burt’s Bees. I’ve had really good luck with their lip balms, moisturizers, and face wipes, so I was excited to try this facial cleanser. Because I don’t have sensitive skin, I can’t say for sure that the cotton extract is extra soothing, but I did enjoy this formula. I also like the fact that this cleanser wasn't scented and was a bit thicker than some other cleansers I've used in the past for an extra clean feel. It worked well to rid my face of all the day's oils and makeup residue, and left my skin soft and feeling fresh. I see they also have a refining cleanser that includes a natural retinol alternative - my mid-30s skin may have to look into that! Has anyone given it a try?
Dove Exfoliating Body Polish - Estimated Value $1.23 (Buy a 10.5 oz container for $6.47)
Ever since Dove introduced their exfoliating body polish line, I have had a container in my tub. This delicious smelling scrub works wonders for smoothing out skin, polishing off dry skin, and helping my legs look their best after shaving. I have tried almost every scent, and so far the pomegranate is my fave - I did notice they just released a lavender-scented polish, so I will definitely be checking that out. I was extremely excited to receive a travel-sized container for when I am on the go and don’t want to lug around my large one! Does anyone else enjoy this body polish as much as I do?
Liquid IV Hydration Multiplier Passion Fruit Electrolyte Drink Mix - Estimated Value $1.50 (Buy a box of 6 for $8.98)
There is nothing more refreshing than an ice-cold drink of water, and that is exactly how I like it....tasting like plain old tap water straight from our well. I've tried drink mixes in the past and just don't love them. This one was no exception. While the science behind this brand is quite interesting, and the basic point of it is to replenish electrolytes more efficiently and in greater supply than typical sports drinks, I just didn't love the taste. I found it a little too tart and honestly, it gave me a slight "Truly lemonade" vibe without the buzz. Even though I didn't enjoy it, my husband thought it was alright so it didn't go to waste.
invisibobble WAVER - Retail Value $6.00
Hair accessories are an absolute must-have in my wardrobe and I probably own over 50 different headbands and 200 bobby pins. Side note: I just learned how to make my own knotted headbands to match the skirts I have been sewing and my husband is starting to think I have lost it! Anyways, because I wear my hair up with my headbands, I have a few little baby hairs at my neckline that just don't like to do what they are told. Using a plain old bobby pin has been my go-to, but they tend to get lost extremely easily and just aren't that fun and exciting. When I opened this package of pink, clear, and fuchsia invisibobble WAVER pins, I was so excited to give them a whirl.
These plastic, painless clips worked great for my side bun and kept my mischievous little hairs in place all day - even while chasing kindergarteners. One of my favorite parts of this snazzy little clip is that it doesn't leave crimps in my hair and doesn't tug or feel heavy. I can't wait to play around with these a little more to debut them in the front of my head, especially that bright pink one!
Verdict
I have to admit when I first opened the fall Walmart Box I thought it looked a little lackluster. The items were small and the box looked incomplete. I wasn't all that excited about the Liquid IV, but after checking out the rest of the products, I was pleasantly surprised. Four out of the five items proved to be very useful and the fact that I received two full-size items really made me feel like I got a pretty good deal. Like I mentioned in the review, I like trying new products, but with the overwhelming number of items on the market, it is hard to know which way to turn, so receiving a box of goodies like this is just the ticket for me. I did notice that the retail values of the items were a bit different than the online prices - prices listed were lower than what they were online, which was odd, but maybe store prices are lower? How do you feel about the revamp and change to 5 items? What did you think of this particular box?
The total value of this quarter's box came out to be about $14.85, which is quite a bit lower than the value of last season's box, but still more than double the cost of the box. Receiving two full-size items was key in this month's curation and because all of the items were things I would use, I found it a pretty darn good deal.
