First Impressions
I long to be a plant lady even though I am not the best plant mom, so I couldn't resist this unique box offering this month. There were three different plant boxes to choose from, Pilea, Kiko, or this Hermes plant. I loved the look of the deep green leaves with the stripes on them, and it turns out this is a pretty rare and unique plant, too, so it was an exciting choice for me!
Inside the Bespoke Post "Rooted" Box
Hermes Plant (Small) by Rooted - Retail Value $25
Of course, the main component of this box is the plant itself. This Hermes plant (Philodendron Birkin) is a rare plant with variegated leaves. You can see the beautiful striping on the leaves which occurs with the more sunlight it receives. It takes indirect sunlight which is perfect for our house and it only needs to be watered about once a week, which is great for my forgetful brain! The plant itself came packaged up nicely and carefully, so it was well protected on its journey.
Ceramic Planter by Rooted - Estimated Retail Value $22
To display our plant, we received this perfectly sized ceramic planter with a drip tray. I love the sleek look of this matte black cylinder and think it would be great with most home decor. I linked to a similar planter offered by Rooted; they are roughly the same size, but ours also includes the drip plate so the value may even be slightly higher for ours!
Organic Potting Mix by Rooted, 1.7 L - Retail Value $7 (Buy 2 for $14)
In order to transfer our plant to its new ceramic planter, we needed a little extra potting mix. This large bag provided me with enough to re-home my Hermes plant as well as three other plants that I own and have been meaning to relocate to new pots. The mix itself is an organic blend of composted forest humus, peat moss, perlite, earthworm castings, and a bit of bat guano (my son was super stoked about this! Haha). An interesting mix! They also provided some thorough directions on the back that I found helpful.
Lava Rocks by Rooted, 1.7 L - Retail Value $8 (Buy 2 for $16)
These lava rocks come straight from "the finest" volcanic eruptions and are perfect for lining the bottom of any pots without drainage holes since they can help keep your plant from sitting in any water that pools at the bottom of your pot. Since ours had a drainage pot I didn't need any at the bottom but was able to mix some into the mix to help keep the water within my soil moistened. I did actually need these for the plants I owned and needed to repot, so I was happy to have this large bag!
My new plant baby:
You can see that the plant I received is a bit dull and smaller compared to the one they received at the photography studio, but I am hoping that as it grows and absorbs more sunlight it will be just as bold and beautiful! Mine actually got delivered over the weekend and we were out of town for the day so I am hopeful it just needs some time to adjust. Otherwise, I might have to drive to the photo studio and swap them out! 😜
In case anyone was curious about how I was doing with my plant from The Plant Club last March, you can see it is still alive and growing (although one day my son stole all of the rocks at the top to put in his toy dump truck), so my new Hermes plant definitely stands a chance! Maybe I can be a plant mom after all!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $45 + $3.95 shipping
Value Breakdown: While I had to estimate the value of the ceramic planter, I think it is probably pretty close to accurate, so that would make the total retail value of this box about $62 which is about $13.05 over the cost of this box. I think that is a pretty decent value considering I was able to make use of the potting mix and lava rocks for other plants I own as well!
Key Takeaways
I was excited to be able to get such a different type of box from Bespoke Post this month. I am working on growing my plant collection and this is such a unique and beautiful plant to add to it. Plus they provided everything I needed to get it potted and displayed, which I thought was incredibly convenient! Can't wait to see how my low-maintenance plant grows!
