Ellie: Luxury Activewear Worth the Hype

I'm going to be honest, I didn't always understand the appeal of subscription-based activewear. I ran 6 days a week in my hay-day, burning through ill-fitting leggings and the most unsupportive sports bras. Not to mention wasting time at retailers buying more of the same lackluster styles. On the rare occasion I splurged on a pair of leggings (sometimes over $100), I appreciated the fit and durability they maintained, but often felt guilty over the price tag. One pair of leggings equaled two weeks' worth of doggy daycare for my pup Wyatt or a Sunday brunch with friends.

So, when I was introduced to Ellie, three things excited me right away:

  1. Ellie lets you pick your plan.
  2. You can choose between 2, 3, to 5 pieces of activewear every month for less than those leggings I mentioned above.
  3. Ellie's fits run true to size (size ranges from XS-XL).
I opted for a small in my three-piece set (for reference, I'm 5'10, 140lbs, and wear a 34D bra). I have broad shoulders, and a long torso but the length from the hoodie, to the support of the sports bra and leggings, was ideal.
The prints are really cute, which I'm often reluctant to try prints because I'm afraid they'll become outdated (I chose the Plum Perfect and received so many compliments). I loved that the leggings were a true high-waisted fit, and I wasn't having to tug at them to keep them up when running. Also, I actually ended up using the pockets to hold my iPhone, car keys, and chicken jerky (for Wyatt).
The quality really impressed me; each piece has buttery soft, moisture-wicking material that is durable in that you can do deadlifts without worrying about the material not cooperating (if you know what I mean). I wore my set everywhere.
My Ellie set arrived 10 days ago, and I've practically lived in it (I've already washed it four times). It's the perfect hybrid of functional activewear that still looks stylish when you're out. I've worn it to the dog park, a puppy party (Wyatt and I are very social), a book reading, and even a coffee date.

Overall Consensus

Ellie has totally changed how I viewed activewear subscriptions. The quality, the fit, and the versatility are unlike any other brands I've tried in the past. Oh, and the price, crazy good! My entire set totals at $44.95, pretty unheard of!

There's flexibility in the subscription, you can opt to cancel, skip or pause at any time (and shipping is always free!)

Opt for their 3-item box ($44.95) to add on a sports bra, or a 5-item box ($49.95) and you'll get two additional work out accessories, like sliders, resista... read more.

Hi, KayKay♡ You make several great points, and I plan on incorporating those in any future clothing reviews I do. As a reason for giving my height and measurements, I do so because I tend to always have to size up; I usually wear a large in clothing.

KayKay

So if a size small is the “perfect” length in both the tops and bottoms on someone who’s 5’10”, obviously they won’t work for someone who’s 5’1″, or for 70% of women, will they? So yet another athleisure company that only caters to tall people. I checked, BTW, and they do not offer petites. Nor do they state the length of the garments on their size chart. It’s nearly impossible to take up knit pants and long sleeved hoodies and sweatshirts yourself – and who wants to pay extra to have someone else do that? And no, you can’t just roll things up.

Hi, KayKay♡ You make several great points, and I plan on incorporating those in any future clothing reviews I do. My reasoning for giving my height & measurements is because I tend to always have to size up; I normally wear a large. My mention of it being the perfect length was honestly because I was surprised it fit my long arms and torso. I should have considered height being a factor, of course, and will do so in the future. I appreciate you taking the time to read♡

No. This is her friends posting, why? I don’t know. This has become a very dirty site,

Maybe I’m missing it, but where is the disclosure? All of the reviews usually say whether the box was gifted by the brand or if MSA paid for the box.

I’m not buying that these reviews of your review are real. It would be the only sub that people make these kinds of comments on your site. Something doesn’t smell right. But, okay 😉

Yup, it’s definitely weird, I hope it’s just the brand and not the site though. I’m a Fabletics girl myself, but I remember MSA used to do Ellie reviews monthly and I think they stopped quite a while ago. I know a lot of subs are new for the reviewers, but they’re not new to us and this felt more like an ad to me anyway. The male comments were also so off and strange.

Hi, Mandi ♡ I genuinely appreciate your feedback! This was my first time trying Ellie, and I ended up being super excited about the product, so that may be why my review or tone didn’t really resonate. If you feel comfortable sharing what you’d like to see more or less of (from any of my reviews) as a reader, I honestly would love your thoughts! ♡ I want to make sure I’m delivering content that is valuable to the MSA community.

This is literally better than reading the comments on that banana slicer on Amazon. Absolutely hysterical! The 2 guys are my favorite, especially the one who thinks we “gals” are so lucky to have this RAD subscription available to us! I have made my thoughts on the direction MSA has taken this website known before so I won’t beat a dead horse (especially since it does no good) but I will say that I am here for these fake comments all day long! Best laugh I have had in forever!

I’m glad you said something! Been on this site since the beginning and what was once a daily habit is becoming twice a month. Are they TRYING to push us away? This fake crap is all over Amazon, we don’t come here for more! The boyfriend who came to a blog for monthly subbox workout wear gift ideas is my favorite so far.

Colleen

For real, cuz guys ALWAYS comment on fashion posts and how they will buy it for their wives. At least this post got “ buried” since this morning, how long do you thing this website will last, jojob ? Coming in for one last round of swaps, then sayonara. Also love how they are featuring long time swappers; trying to keep the site alive, I guess. They cannot even be bothered to edit headings correctly.

I’m with you Subscription Snob. Sounds like bull.

Feels a bit like Ellie sent their team over to leave comments, doesn’t it?

Yep. They’re trying a bit too hard. Some of us have been on this site for years, we can spot these a mile away.

I am so glad you reviewed this! Ellie definitely deserves tons of love! It’s hands down my favorite subscription, I always say it’s my gift to myself. Their sizing is so on point, their styles are always on trend, and the quality is phenomenal. I also love how versatile their outfits are – I’m in media, and I love that I can go from the gym or Pilates to a casual meeting or coffee date. I also feel so confident in my Ellie outfits! Having the option to skip is also fabulous, although I haven’t yet, I always find an outfit I love in the collections, and I love that they bring back older outfits that you may have wanted but didn’t choose. Ellie is the best! Thanks for reviewing it 💗

Looking through all these outfits makes me wish I was a gal! You ladies get the coolest! This active wear is Rad!

Hi Josh!
I know, right! I wouldn’t be surprised if Ellie came out with a men’s line or even a unisex line sometime soon! Thank you for reading!♡

Very nice gear. Got some gift ideas for the Mrs.

Hi Chris! I love that you’ve gifted this to your wife! Such a great idea for couples for the holidays♡

I have had ellie subscription for the past year, now that I prefer to wear active/lounge wear more. I love the fact that an outfit is put together for you and you get to pick exactly what you want or skip a month. Customer service has been great so for with size exchanges. Highly recommend, cheaper than target and the quality is amazing!

VI

Just as an FYI, from the comments that I see, I do not know April the reviewer nor am I affiliated in any way with Ellie. Just a regular customer who has been paying for her subscription. I do get the 5 piece set and I am usually happy with what i get, occasionally sizing maybe off but I do get a free exchange. I love ellie for the value they provide and the pieces I have bought still hold up a year after use.

April Stettner

Hi Vi! ♡
Yes, I love that a whole outfit is picked for you so it takes the guesswork out of throwing things together (so I can avoid looking crazy at the dog park, ha!). Have you tried the 5 piece set yet? I’m thinking I might want to try that next.

Kate

I had no idea before reading this review that I could have activewear sent to me monthly at such an affordable price. From what this review states, I’m definitely going to be giving Ellie a shot! Thanks, April!

I feel like Kate Winslet on the Sinking Titanic. Blowing my whistle…Liz….come back…come back….

I know, right! I always assumed a subscription would go up exponentially every month, so I was really excited that Ellie had this option! ♡

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

I Would definitely be interested if the company ever decided to expand their sizing range, brands being inclusive is very important to me 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

KayKay

I completely agree. This is not an inclusive company as their sizes end at XL and they also don’t include petite lengths in sleeves and bottoms – this is something that is desperately needed in athleisure knits because alterations are nearly impossible.

Reply ButtonReply

Gabbi

I would really love to try it too, but XL isn’t big enough for me. Fabletics carries up to 4XL in most sizes and I know Ellie is a smaller company but they’ve been around for quite some time. I wish they would get in step with them.

Reply ButtonReply

April Stettner

Hi Victoria!♡ I completely agree. I was a little surprised to see a more limited range of sizes, but my hope (if it’s not already in the works) is that they’ll have more inclusive sizing in the future. I will certainly keep you posted as I learn more! Appreciate you taking the time to read & share ♡
