NewBeauty TestTube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to NewBeauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
Our items arrived in customary brown box + tube packaging. I honestly think that while the Tube is cool, since all of the items never totally fit into it that it might be something this sub could do without. I know, I know, TUBE is in the name, but it just feels like extra.
The Products
Mediheal D.N.A Hydrating Protein Mask – Retail Value $3.98
I love sheet masks because they make masking easy and a lot less messy than something arriving in a tube or pot. This is also the time of year where I really appreciate sheet masks that are hydration-focused since I am about to be suffering through these cold chapping winter winds. The serum is creamy and lightly scented and the mask material is a soft bamboo fiber. Inside is a mix of 19 different amino acids and proteins which lock in hydration and had a firming effect on my skin. After I removed the sheets I massaged in the excess serum and happily noted there was no filmy residue.
Yes To Cucumbers Daily Eye Treatment, 15 mL – Retail Value $10.99
I liked this eye treatment. It isn't my favorite out there, but the ingredient list is great for that sensitive area and has loads of fatty oils that are wonderfully fortifying for thinner skin around the eyes. I would leave this stuff specifically to that area because I do spy some coconut oil on the ingredient list which might cause acne-prone users breakouts if you stray from your eye region. It has a light scent that reminds me of, well, cucumbers, and also caffeine for that instantly awake look.
MOOD Calm Lip Balm in Lavender Serenity, 0.15 oz – Retail Value $19
This might be my favorite thing in this delivery! It has such a true and strong creamy lavender scent and it is smooth as butter. In addition to being wonderfully moisturizing, it also has 250 mg of CBD which probably is more of a placebo to me than anything that actually helps in balm form, but I have been reaching for this tube daily.
Saints & Sinners Superfresh Divine Dry Shampoo, 6 oz – Retail Value $30
I didn't find this dry shampoo as effective on my limp post-gym hair as some others out there, but I think if you are looking for a lighter refresh it might be a great option. Per Saints and Sinners:
Free of talc, gluten, parabens, phthalates, SES & SLES sulfates, iron oxides, mineral oil, synthetic colors, petrolatum, nut ingredients and palm oil.
Since my normal go-to has legit butane in it, I think I am just more used to harsh dry shampoos, which probably isn't a good thing. It would be a great choice for me to move towards a more gentle formula like this, so I am going to keep it around. It also smells pretty great too, so bonus points for that.
DeoDoc DeoSpray in Jasmine Pear, 1.7 fl oz – Retail Value $20
Do I want to smell like a pear down there?
I don't know that I do. But I do know that this stuff seemed to work wonders. Again, sometimes I get really gross at the gym. And sometimes I don't have a chance to shower before I am already off to the next thing on my to-do list. I do like sprays like this because they are instantly refreshing and a great way to stretch that time between any sweaty activity and some random errand, but I am not crazy about this fragrance. I do appreciate that I noticed zero irritation and that this formula was developed with a gynecologist since any product you use, well, down there, should be gentle and safe. I would be interested in trying other scents from this spray.
BYBI Strawberry Booster, 15 mL – Retail Value $9.99
This cute little bottle is filled with 100% strawberry seed oil. This stuff is bursting with antioxidants and is a great addition to your routine if you are looking for a boost. I would combine it with your fave moisturizer or serum to make it more well-rounded and add extra moisture since it is also full of omega acids. It is a lighter-weight oil that absorbs well and it has a green herbaceous scent. I like that this is made from the extra materials left over from juicing too! Very cool!
Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel, 5 treatments – Retail Value $17
I have done quite a few peels over the years and I really love seeing how it changes the texture of my skin for the better over time. This little pack of five peels is a great intro to peels and though these are listed as being daily peels, I think once a week is more than fine for most people, especially if you are new to peels. Each packet arrives with two compartments: the exfoliating peel and a second packet with a neutralizer. They are very easy to use too! Make sure you have a clean face and wipe the first towelette on and keep wiping until the towel is dry. Give it two minutes and do the same thing with the second towel. Follow up with a good moisturizer and be sure to wear your SPF because AHAs and BHAs can make you sun sensitive. Over time, expect smoother skin and minimized pore appearance thanks to the salicylic acid inside.
Daily Concepts Jade Gua Sha – Retail Value $16
I love a gua sha and my clients do too! It is such a nice addition to a facial massage, especially when you chill the gua sha and combine it with a little warm steam. Wow-za! This one is a little larger than many, and made of solid jade and it feels incredible against the contours of the face. This is a very ancient tool born of Traditional Chinese Medicine that was actually created as a treatment for heatstroke. It has a really interesting history you can read more about here. Sure, this might not be a new or novel item (historically or even in the subscription box world!) but I love receiving these because I am also crazy about rocks and crystals and each one is different and special in its own way.
LivOn Liposomal Vitamin B Complex, 30 packets – Retail Value $51.95
Finally, my last item is a box of liquid vitamin B complex. I am going to admit that I don't know much about vitamins in terms of supplements and I am not quite sure if I really care about this? From what I can read it looks like this blend is said to help with circulation, sugar cravings, energy levels, digestion, and a lot of other things. I don't know about that but I do know that this stuff is a bright yellow color and smells like citrus. I mixed it with water alone to see what the taste factor was and it was actually not bad at all and reminded me a lot of Flinstones Vitamins with less sugar. I am just not a vitamin person so these are maybe not that exciting to me but if any of you want to tell me how/why they are magical let me know!
Verdict
This NewBeauty TestTube has a value of around $178.91. And I will admit that this one wasn't one of my absolute favorites. This sub is one of those where every other delivery seems to be amazing, and this was an off box for me personally. That isn't to say that there weren't super useful things inside this month but I felt it was missing a big-ticket brand/item that would have really set the whole curation off.
