First Impressions
It is baking season for me and being that I am about eight months pregnant at the moment, I figured I could certainly do with some cookies! This looked like a really nice set and I was curious to see what it was all about. Sadly, this cocktail recipe they included will have to wait, but it's something I'll look forward to trying out one day! My husband and I both enjoy bourbon, so this drink sounds like it will be perfect for us!
Inside the Bespoke Post "Dough" Box
Honey Ginger Syrup by Cheeky Cocktails, 4 oz. - Retail Value $7.50
To make the delicious cocktail recipe above they included this honey-ginger syrup which contains only those two ingredients and a bit of water. It certainly packs a nice little ginger punch and while I can't have a cocktail with it right now, I did add some to my tea and it was just the right amount of flavor and sweetness for me! I am looking forward to trying this with some bourbon in the future because I am certain this will accent it perfectly!
Bourbon-Infused Cookie Kit by Red Velvet NYC
I have never heard of Red Velvet NYC, but it looks like they actually have their own monthly subscription with baking kits (I am so tempted by December's kit! Creme brulee and chocolate truffles? Yes, please!) and this box specially curated for Bespoke Post contains three separate bourbon-infused cookie recipes. What is so unique is that every ingredient you need (with the exception of the eggs and bourbon) is included in the box and comes pre-measured making it so easy to bake up delicious treats in no time! We received kits to make Ginger Snaps, Chocolate Spiced cookies, and Chocolate Crinkle cookies and each recipe yields about 15-18 cookies. While I couldn't find an exact comparison on their website, it looks like a similar ginger snap cookie kit (which yields 30 cookies and has white chocolate - yum!) retails for $28.
I decided to test out the chocolate crinkle cookies first, and while I probably won't wait that long, it seems that the ingredients for my other cookie kits have a shelf life of about 6 months, so I can make them last for a while if I really wanted to! It was so simple to make this recipe! I simply poured in each of the pre-measured ingredients, added my 2 eggs and 1 tablespoon of bourbon and my dough was ready!
Then I poured my powdered sugar into a bowl, rolled my cookies into balls, and then rolled them in the sugar before placing them on a pan and baking them. Easy peasy and only two bowls and a spoon to clean up! They even provided the parchment paper so I just had to rinse my pan off after baking. I made my cookies a smidge bigger than they required so I only got 15 cookies when I was supposed to get 16 total, but that was fine with me. They looked delicious and baked up nicely!
Look at that nice thick cookie! It really did feel decadent and I could get the faintest hint of bourbon flavor in the cookie with the chocolate. They actually tasted even better the next day. The cookies are a decent size and they made for such a tasty treat! I am really looking forward to trying the other two recipes now. We'll see how long I can hold off!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $49 + $4.95 shipping
Value Breakdown: Honestly, I am not sure how to value this cookie kit, but since a kit that makes 30 cookies retails for $28, I can guesstimate about $15 per kit for a total of $45 which just about breaks even for this subscription. Since that doesn't include the honey-ginger syrup, I think the value is there, although this box definitely felt more like a gift-worthy splurge than something I would actually purchase for myself!
Key Takeaways
This month's Bespoke Post box would make a really nice gift for someone who enjoys cookies or bourbon but doesn't enjoy baking so much. This is a really unique box that could be perfect for the right person. It's a bit of a splurge, but the ease of baking these cookies is definitely something that I'm sure some people would really appreciate. Plus, the cookies were delicious!
