Sensory TheraPlay Box is a monthly subscription service for children on the autism spectrum, or with sensory processing issues. Each box is filled with sensory toys or games that help develop motor skills or address varying sensory needs through therapeutic play. We always love the fun and unique items they send each month!
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
I always know it's going to be a good box when they include a game! We love to play games as a family, and I can always rest assured that these games will be fun, unique, and developmentally appropriate for my kiddos. I knew they would also enjoy some of the other toys that we were familiar with.
What's Inside This Box
Each box comes with a one-page insert with photos of the items on the front and a brief description with their values on the back. It also includes contact information along with a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. As someone with a Special Education background, I love that they include this since every child is unique and responds to various stimuli in different ways! There are some items that may not be appropriate for every child depending on those needs.
They also include a nice little motivational card for us.
Noodle Knockout by Learning Resources - Retail Value $19.99
I already love Learning Resources because they have so many great toys and games that my kids just love! Everything from this company is quality and this game fits well within that category! We received four bowls, four sets of tongs, and lots of noodles and other ramen mix-ins that we can use our fine motor skills to pick up with the tongs to create some delicious bowls with! There are a few different games you can play from the simplest of just sorting by type, by color, etc to the more complex games of building a noodle order by following the pictures on the order card or the group game of spinning the spinner and being the first to build your ramen bowl with all of the ingredients. This is so great because you can play solo, with a partner, or with a small group, so the possibilities are endless. All of the pieces are great for open-ended play, too, and I am sure that there will be a game of restaurant in the near future now that we have this set!
The kids had fun simply exploring the items inside and working with the tongs at first, but then we were able to get a whole family game going and that was even more fun.
I think what I love most is that it's great for any age so my 3, 5, and 7-year-old could all play at once. I am so happy to add this to our game collection!
Clear Slime Mix Ins by Toysmith - Retail Value $4.99
This is a new one for us! This container contains one little pack of soft clay and another pack of clear slime. Before mixing the two together, our slime was super sticky and cold, but after adding the soft clay to it and mixing well, it transformed into a new substance that was stretchy and really fun to manipulate. My kids have been playing with it all morning, hiding small animal toys inside and uncovering them. I like that it comes with a container to store them in, too!
Mini Hyper Flex Flyer by Playvisions - Listed Value $2.25
In the past, we have received larger versions of this little soft, stretchy silicone disc and it has always been a hit! I'm not sure what it is about it, but the incredibly stretchy texture is so appealing to their little hands, and I even enjoy playing with it, too! This tiny one is so cute! Although we'll see how long it lasts, my son has realized that if he stretches it enough and lets go he can fling it across the room!
Narwhal Squeezy Keychain by Toysmith - Retail Value $2.99
This cute little silicone narwhal keychain is a fun little item! If you squeeze him, a blue sparkly water bubble will pop out of his spout! It's not super easy to do, so this is a great toy for hand exercises!
Playfoam Pals by Educational Insights - Retail Value $4.00 (Buy 2 for $7.99)
We always have fun with Playfoam, and of course, it's even better when there's a cute little animal toy to discover inside of it! This time we received Speedy the Sloth. My kids have also been playing with this substance all morning and they love to shape it and mold it into different things. Currently, it is being used as a nest, I believe. This stuff is lightweight and it doesn't dry out. It is made up of tiny foam balls that are slightly sticky which helps them stay together for molding and manipulating.
Earth's Core Squishy Earth by Toysmith - Retail Value $10.78
This last toy is pretty cool! It's essentially the earth cut in half so that you can see the different layers of the core (educational!), but you can squish it and squeeze it then watch it slowly rise back to its original shape. It's just firm enough for some fine motor work and it can also definitely be used as a calming tool with the way it slowly rises back up! My kids just think it's plain cool and so do I!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $42.00 + shipping (Save with longer subscriptions)
My kids loved this box and we had so much fun breaking out all of the toys and having a fun sensory playtime before bed! As for the total retail value we received, I came up with a total of about $45 which is over the cost of the box, but not quite enough to cover shipping. Honestly, we love this box and we missed it when we took a break from reviewing it, so even though we aren't getting an amazing value out of it, the experience that this special curation creates truly does make it worth it for our family!

Whether your child has sensory processing issues or not, I think every child can appreciate and benefit from these boxes!
