First Impressions
This box looked very different from previous ones – aesthetically speaking. Inside, there was a note that explained why the box looked different. It read -
We'd like to introduce you to our redesigned Vegancuts box. One we hope awakens a sense of wonder, inspiration, and discovery. From the playful doodles to the moving quotes of those who motivate us, this box is more than a shell for your products, it's now an extension of your journey."
While that sounds very poetical, the truth is I did find the new box exciting to look at, and the quote felt very moving. I love when the box sets the tone for what's inside.
The card this month also featured a chicken, just not the same chicken from our September box. Still, it's always good to go back to the card to learn more about the products in the box. And (at least for me) to actually remember the name of the item I loved so much I'll purchase again.
What's Inside The Box
Banana Bread Cookie – $102 for a box of 60
I'm not someone to trust banana bread cookies, but this one blew my mind. It was literally like eating a mini-version of your mom's banana bread. I don't know if it's the almond-butter base or the soft-baked action, but this isn't your good old cookie. It's an incredibly moist (but not too moist) cookie that almost melts in your mouth. I know a box of 60 cookies might seem like a lot, but these are so good I'd probably get one.
Black Truffle Infused Hot Sauce – $17.98 for a 6oz bottle
First of all, this was an exciting addition to the box. Technically hot sauce isn't a snack, so perhaps this is all part of their new direction? For me, this was the perfect marriage of two things I love: hot sauce and truffle. The sauce itself has thousands of reviews out there – not sure what other sauce does. Its fancy bottle makes you feel polished when using it and really elevates the experience. But, for the flavor. This was a BOMB of flavor. It's 3.5 out of 5 in terms of spiciness (at least for me). You can feel the heat and delicious flavor of the hot sauce, immediately followed by a lingering taste and scent of the truffle essence. I used mine with cauliflower, but apparently, people put this stuff on pasta, pizza, scrambled eggs, and everything else in between.
Chickpea Chips – $17.99 for a variety pack of 3
I've tried different chickpeas in the past, so I got really excited when I saw the Pico De Gallo flavor. However, these felt more like rice cakes than chickpea chips. Then, after looking at the ingredients, I realized the second one on the list was rice flour! The Himalayan Salt ones were much better than the Pico De Gallo; those had a fake chili powder or fake paprika flavor that I just couldn't get past. Unfortunately, I felt underwhelmed by these ones, and I don't think I'll get them again.
Kimchi Sea Snack – $15.99 for a pack of 20
WOW! When I tell you this little seaweed snack packs some flavor, I'm telling you it packs a ton of flavor. I don't know how they do it, but the kimchi powder tastes exactly like the real deal. It's slightly spicy but not too overwhelming. This is the perfect snack to curb all your cravings. And the best part is that the whole pack is only 20 calories, so there's zero guilt! I'm 100% keeping these in my pantry from now on.
Sparkling Beverage – $35.99 for a pack of 12
I was never a sparkling beverage kind of person until I joined Vegancuts. To be honest, it's become one of my favorite parts of the box because I feel like it's really pushing me to try new things. However, this white peach sparkling water was definitely a miss. The flavor was so artificial I felt I was drinking cough syrup! No disrespect to those out there who love white peach flavor drinks, but this wasn't my cup of tea.
Sour Watermelon Gummies – $16.99 for a pack of 2
Well, call me ignorant, but I had no idea you could make vegan gummies! This was a mind-blowing moment for me (and my husband). This was the first item I opened from the box. I was just that excited to try them. And they did not disappoint. These gummies are incredibly addictive and taste just like the real deal. Of course, they're still gummies, so don't expect any healthy nutrition facts from this. To me, just the fact that they're vegan, gluten-free, and only use natural flavors and colors was more than enough. I'll be definitely treating myself to these later.
Mixed Berry Soft Baked Biscuit – $14.97 for 1 pack
While I don't know if I'd call these biscuits, these mixed berry cookies were definitely a treat. It had just the right amount of berries and nuts to feel wholesome, with the perfect soft-baked texture that makes them gooey and delicious. Nothing too crazy here, just a delicious soft-baked cookie.
Hazelnut & Cocoa Sandwich Biscuit – $32.99 for 24 packs
Everything about this biscuit made me excited, but there was a problem: mine arrived all crumbled. (insert sad emoji here). So, I got to taste crumbles of the biscuit and some sections of the sandwich itself. Overall the flavor was really amazing; it was perfectly balanced and didn't feel too sweet or dry.
Texas BBQ Pigless Pork Rinds – $47.88 for a 12 pack
Another fall box, another pigless pork rind snack? This is the second box that includes these chips. As you might know by now, I'm not a fan of BBQ or pork. So, I tried them just for the sake of this review, and of course, I didn't like them. But, for this review, I brought in my BBQ-expert husband, who asked me to tell you, "they're not like the real deal, but the BBQ sauce is on point, so you can at least kick the craving if you're having one."
The Verdict
The theme this month was "No Tricks. Just Treats!" I think it was a fairly diverse box with a few additions, like the hot sauce. From this box, I'm definitely buying the gummies and the banana bread cookies again. Those two items blew my mind in terms of flavor, texture, and ingredients. But, there's one thing I realized with this month's box, I wish there was an option to rate what you receive, so they can better curate your box next time. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll keep receiving pigless pork rinds and BBQ sauce snacks that I don't necessarily love. Maybe that's an issue you struggle with too?
