POV: You can't decide which meal kit to choose, HelloFresh or Blue Apron. I'm here to help.
If you want the most meal options … HelloFresh
Personally, I like to have some variety when subscribing to a meal delivery service. Although I certainly have my favorite types of food, it's still fun to try out recipes that I wouldn't cook on a regular basis.
This is one of the major reasons why I enjoy HelloFresh -they offer 6 types of meals which include Meat & Veggies, Veggie, Family-Friendly, Fit & Wholesome, Quick and Easy, and Pescatarian.
Blue Apron, on the other hand, only offers Signature, Wellness, and Vegetarian.
If you want the most cost-effective plan … HelloFresh
In addition to having access to as many meal plan options as possible, price is another huge factor for me when it comes to choosing the right meal subscription service.
Currently, Blue Apron's most basic plan starts at $29.95 per order - $4.99/recipe, but $9.99 for shipping. In comparison, HelloFresh starts at $5.75 per serving , but shipping is free and the final price only costs $23. That sounds more like it to me!
If you need grocery items or want additional options … HelloFresh
HelloFresh recently launched its Market where you can shop for a variety of additional items to add to your weekly meal delivery, ranging from heat-and-eat meals to snacks, proteins, and coffee. I find this super helpful as I can buy breakfast items, desserts, sides, and more to have on hand when needed.
If you need a full set of kitchen tools … Blue Apron
While it doesn't offer as many meal categories, Blue Apron does offer a huge selection when it comes to kitchen tools.
I could see this being incredibly helpful for when you need guidance on buying the right pots and pans, handcrafted knives, cooking utensils, or cutting boards.
If you want the most food per week … HelloFresh
HelloFresh offers the most options for the number of recipes you can receive each week. You can select anywhere from 2-6 recipes per week, regardless if you're ordering for 2 or 4 people, whereas Blue Apron limits you to 2-4 recipes per week for its Signature plan or 2 to 3 recipes per week for its Wellness and Vegetarian plans.
Just like everyone else, some of my work weeks are way busier than others and it's great to know that I can have coverage for dinner for the full work week with HelloFresh. Some nights I just can't get to the store and it's an absolute relief to know I have everything I need for that night's dinner right at home.
Ultimate Winner: HelloFresh
Although Blue Apron offers some awesome add-ons, HelloFresh beats it hands-down when it comes to the overall price and subscription flexibility. HelloFresh offers a substantially more cost-effective meal subscription, has a greater range of meal plan options to choose from, and allows you to receive more recipes per week.
