ShoeDazzle Plus: Faux Leather Pants & Boots Review

Plus Size Tummy Tamer Faux Leather Ankle Legging, Size 3x-- Retail Value $64.95

Wow. Allow me to try to take a deep breath before I start talking about these leggings. Upon seeing these on the ShoeDazzle site, I was eager to buy them. I am a glutton for punishment and wear a lot of faux leather pieces even though I am a sweaty beast of a woman on a good day. I had to give these leggings a go-- the high waist sucked me in. I didn't realize that they were named Tummy Tamers. Hilarious, right?  There is no such thing with this rebellious belly of mine-- but I was willing to take the challenge! Yinz, I took the challenge and was not rewarded. Not in the least. I want to be positive about this experience, but I am downright aggravated. I opened these leggings and was stunned to see how small they were. I thought, "Possibly, these will stretch!" Nope, the stretch is insanely limited, especially since these are leggings. There was no way I was getting these on my body. I couldn't get them past my calves. It was an absolute travesty! These are meant to be a size 3x. A size 3x in plus sizes usually equates to a size 22/24. I ended up gifting these to my mother, who is roughly a size 8 or 10, and she even had difficulty getting these on. She managed to, but I seriously thought I was going to have to see if these would fit my 10-year-old cousin-- that is how small these leggings are. I am frustrated because I could not show you how these look on me to give you a proper review. I was upset because ShoeDazzle let me and other plus-size women down yet again. And to add insult to injury-- the leggings in straight sizes are two dollars less. WOW. Just... wow.

On the bright side, I can at least give you an idea of how I would have styled these if they had fit my bodacious bod. I would have worn these with a leopard print button-down, faux leather biker jacket, and some booties for a night out. For a more casual look, I can envision these with a vintage band shirt, denim jacket, and low-top Chucks. These also would look fantastic with an oversized, thick knit, sweater and combat boots! The options truly would have been endless-- if these had fit!

Danilyn Lugsole Bootie, Size 9.5— Retail Value $64.95

I was so excited to find these lug sole booties on the ShoeDazzle site as well. They were serving me authentic dELiA*s 90s catalog realness-- and I was here for it! As a teenager, I would have drooled all over myself looking at these, circled them with a felt tip marker, and dog eared the page in hopes my mother might notice that I wanted them for my birthday or Christmas. I kept thinking how fantastic these boots would look paired with the leggings I selected and was brainstorming different looks in my head.

It was upsetting that the leggings couldn't fit, but I figured I would luck out with these booties. The Fashion Godesses had to be out there on my side on this one! Guess what, though? These boots didn't fit me either! I was blessed with a high instep and I couldn't wiggle my feet into these bad boys no matter what I tried. I felt like one of Al Bundy's customers trying to shoe my size 9.5 foot into a size 8 with only poor results. I didn't even think to order these in the wide option because I hit the jackpot with my white combat boots from my last review. What the heck?

If you don't have a crazy high instep or Barney Rubble feet like yours truly, these might fit you! If they do, you will have so many killer ways to wear these beauties! These would look great with a mini polo dress and faux leopard fur coat for some Margo Tennenbaum vibes to wear to see a band play at your favorite watering hole. These also would jazz up a pair of skinny jeans and an oversized turtleneck sweater for a hot chocolate/ Pumpkin Spice Latte date. These boots will add such a cool touch to anything you wear. I will be slightly envious of your good fortune and small feet and calves.

Verdict:

There is no way to sugarcoat this month's review: ShoeDazzle did me dirty. I always try to look at these situations in a positive way, but I am just downright frustrated.  I cannot fathom how the leggings I received were remotely plus size.  If this were a one-time thing with ShoeDazzle, I would let it roll off like water from a duck's back. This is a whole new low in my experiences as a customer, though. It is bad enough that they literally have a total of twenty-four items in plus sizes on their site. Twenty-four items total versus the pages and pages available in straight size options. I feel insulted and slighted. Plus-size customers are not an afterthought-- we have money and we want to give it to businesses that will cater to us that are truly size-inclusive. I usually suggest that they consider broadening their size range to a 5 or 6x, but even 3x sized customers like myself are being overlooked. I often commend ShoeDazzle on their phenomenal VIP programs--  their frequent sales and rewards program are amazing! Truly unreal deals! I have found some amazing pieces from the site in the past. In the last few months, I have focused more on accessories due to there being such a limited selection in plus sizes. At the risk of sounding like a broken record: what good does an awesome VIP program do me if I can't find my size in pieces I like? Or if I select an item in their largest size and it doesn't fit me? I truly hope that ShoeDazzle works on what they offer their plus-size customers. They deserve so much better. I truly hope that next month is more fruitful, but I am not holding my breath.

Those leggings look like they’d fit my four year old. Have these folks ever? seen? a? plus? size? person? We aren’t cryptids! Look around, ShoeDazzle.

Ann, I laughed imagining Moth Man coming out of Torrid with a handful of bags. BUT IT IS TRUE! Like we are the majority! The average size of women in the US is a size 16. Receiving these leggings was such an offense! I hope it was a weird one off where like a straight sized item was mislabeled and sent to me, but STILL! They legit have like less than 20 plus size items on their site, so this is something for me to stew about further. hahaha

Yikes! Seems like this company owes you a refund!

I would love if they saw this and decided to work on their offerings in plus sizes. Their sales in plus might increase if they catered to us better.

Kassidy

That’s so frustrating. It would be one thing if they even came close to fitting. I could make an allowance for some discrepancy in size charts or measurements etc, but this is just a flat out disregard for plus size customers.

Agreed, Kassidy. Like I get some sizing will range in clothing, but this is so drastic. I felt like I was being PUNK’d! hahaha

Unbelievable. As more and more retailers make strides in this there is no excuse for this at all.

I completely agree, Michelle!

I have been looking for a place to begin with a plus sized subscription service. I am 6′ tall and a size 18 bottom and a 22 top. It is crappy enough trying to find my style in pants that aren’t “clam diggers” and the wildly broad ideas of what is a 2x top are absurd. (Stretched out buttons because it’s too tight or 3 feet wide but sits above my belly button, too big and too short.) I very much appreciate this review because it saves me the time of even considering ShoeDazzle. The drama is real enough on its own. Who wants to literally sign up for it?

Thanks, Tera! I am glad to help provide insight. I know the struggle is real, especially being plus sized and tall! It is just baffling to me how they have like hundreds of pages of straight sizes and then the small fraction of plus sizes aren’t even truly plus! So frustrating!

Wow. That’s seriously disappointing. That doesn’t look anywhere close to a 3X…UGH. WHY DO RETAILERS DO THIS?!

Nicole Rieder

Right? It is just so upsetting!

AH

It is really inexcusable at this point in my opinion to not have better size inclusion. The average US woman size is now a 16 or 18. That is average now, so sizes both bigger and smaller should be readily available if any business had a clue. They seriously would make bank because plus size woman are still excluded from luxury or trendy pieces. I just don’t understand it anymore.

AH, it is soooo frustrating. You see all the advances made, and then something like this just… is upsetting. I agree completely. So much money being left on the table, it is offensive!

Kristin

They don’t offer petites so not an option for me. At least you have some options!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

I agree, Kristin. More brands should offer more petite and tall options. But a lot of work needs to be made for this plus section. It is maybe twenty items, if that. No one is winning in that regard. I don’t have many options too because you can see how those pants went! hahaha
