First Impressions

I was excited to see that this box came with another reusable bag and was only one month behind. Hooray!

What's Inside The Box

The box arrives with a card that lists the products and highlights some of the beauty brands found within. November's theme was ‘Fun.’

LARITZY Gel Liner in Nutty, 1 g - Retail Value $18.00

Laritzy Gel Liner for The Beauty Box by Bombay and Cedar November 2021

I really love how precise and pointed this pencil is. The formula is a luxuriously creamy texture that didn’t tug or drag while I was lining my lips. It was easy to apply precisely and was very pigmented. It also stayed put almost all day long, even as I was drinking and eating things, which I found pretty impressive. The one thing I will say is that the body of the pencil is plastic, and it’s apparently sharpenable but I’m not sure how. I thought maybe you twist the bottom, but that was a no-go. If anyone out there knows, please enlighten your girl: how do I sharpen this plastic pencil?

LARITZY Artistry Palette in Burnt, 7.5 g - Retail Value $32.00

Another Laritzy product. I’m pretty excited about this one because it’s a palette. Honestly, I’ve only ever tried Laritzy lip products in the past, and I don’t think I even knew they had palettes. But I am loving the shades of this Artistry Palette in Burnt. I think they fit my skin tone beautifully. The formula is smooth and buildable, and I found it easy to apply and blend. The shades are gold, bronze, and brownish, and the palette has everything you need to make a day look and take that day look into a night look. I also really enjoy how slim and compact the palette itself is. It’s perfect for on-the-go. Easy to throw in your purse or your suitcase, and still have everything you need for multiple looks. The shades include Cider, a golden shimmer; Crisp, a burnt orange-ish color; Toasted, a bronzy shimmer; PSL, an orangish-brown, and Crumble, a pecan-brown.

LARITZY Cream Lipstick in Crimson, 3.5 g - Retail Value $20.00

A third Laritzy product; it’s almost like a box takeover. I’m much more familiar with this type of product from Laritzy, and I really love the dark blood-red shade of this ‘Crimson’ cream lipstick. This product applies so smoothly and so creamy. The color is vibrant and highly pigmented. It left me feeling like a sultry ingénue with an absurdly tiny waist. It glides on easily, and the formula is buildable, with a satin finish. The lipstick is formulated with shea butter, and I found it very hydrating and comfortable for all-day wear. There was a bit of transfer when I was eating or drinking, but it stayed put pretty much all day long.

EQUALRXN SKIN Oat Milk PHA Serum, 30 ml - Retail Value $28.00

I love the frosted plastic bottle packaging. I have pretty sensitive skin, so anything with lactobionic acid is a little too strong for me sometimes. I found the serum to be very gentle on my sensitive skin, leaving behind no irritation or itchiness. It was definitely hydrating and left my face looking glowy and feeling refreshed. My skin felt softer and more buoyant.

VERVE CULTURE Thai Crystal Deodorant, 100 g - Retail Value $8.00

I have a fear of getting Alzheimer’s from the aluminum-filled deodorant I use, but I’m also afraid of being stinky, so I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s a crystal that you wet with water and glide over your skin. It supposedly naturally prevents odor-causing bacteria for up to 24 hours, and I say ‘supposedly’ because I chickened out and used regular deodorant after applying. The crystal itself is smooth and cool and feels very refreshing on our skin. I plan to try this crystal deodorant fully on a day when I don’t have to go anywhere, and I’m very intrigued to see the results.

TRUTHBRUSH Bamboo Interdental Toothbrushes, 5-piece - Retail Value $5.30

This is another new product to me. I have never seen a bamboo toothbrush that looks like this. They’re very small, and it took quite a long time to clean my teeth. I wasn’t really sure if this was supposed to be used more as a flosser. I couldn’t find an instructional video anywhere, so I brushed all of my teeth, and I have to say, I found it a tiny bit tedious. Afterward, my teeth did feel very clean on the surface. None of that weird fuzz you get at the end of the day if you miss your afternoon brushing. I will say, it worked incredibly well to clean in between my teeth, thanks to the ultra-tiny bristle head, and I will definitely be using the rest of these as a flosser and then using my toothbrush to clean the rest of my teeth.

Verdict

I found this month’s The Beauty Box by Bombay and Cedar very intriguing. There were three products from Laritzy, which was exciting because I’d only ever gotten to try their lip products. The palette was compact and full of beautiful shades that could be used for a variety of looks. The gel liner was easy to apply, with precision and offered comfortable and long-lasting wear. The lipstick had the signature soft, creamy formula with a bright pigment and a shade I really enjoyed. The EqualRxn serum was gentle on my sensitive skin while making my face look glowy and feel hydrated. The most intriguing product in this box for me was the Thai crystal deodorant. I’m very interested to see how effective this crystal is. Lastly, another unusual product for me was the bamboo toothbrushes from TrustBrush. I really like how the tiny brush head cleaned between my teeth so effectively. Overall, I think this was a very interesting box. The value was there, and the curation was definitely diverse.

Naomi – as someone who uses that kind of deodorant, I can say it works (for me, at least!) BUT if you’ve been a regular deo/antiperspirant user for awhile, it may take some time for your pits to adjust to a natural option. There are lots of armpit detox masks out there and you can make them at home pretty easily (if your skin is sensitive, charcoal mixed with water can work pretty well… and now I realize I probably sound bonkers!).

ARMPIT DETOX MASKS! Julie, I had no idea such a thing existed. Thank you for sharing, I’m going to look into that!

Ohhh, I remember those types of flossers… I used to use those when I had braces and had to clean between the surface of my teeth and the wire after eating. I honestly thought that’s what they were made for, and never even considered using them for in between the teeth! I had a different kind of floss with a stiff end to easily thread under the wire when I had braces, then floss like normal, but threading it for every tooth was a bear, lol.

I’m not going to lie, the thought of your brushing each and every one of your teeth with these flossers made me smile! That is true dedication to a thorough review! The minute I saw them I was confused though because these are flossers and I have never known them to be reusable as this company states which makes the bamboo handles seem wasteful to me. I always toss mine after use. Anyway I hope you truly try the deo and report back because I would love to know how/if it works. I use natural deo currently and I am always looking for new ones to try. Thank you!

Patricia

I found that the sharpener that I use on my wood beauty pencils works just as well for the plastic beauty pencils.

I just googled interdental brushes and found an instructional video right away lol I carry plastic versions from GUM in my purse at all times, they’re flossers.
