BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs for $35 a month + free shipping. BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. Murray, my 10 year old Corgi-Maltese will be testing these products to let us know if this subscription is up to sniff... I mean snuff!
If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
The January 2022 'Slobber Party' box included three toys, two bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.
Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.
Of course Murray and I unbox together, but this time around he knew that this package was all about him, and he was literally trying to crawl inside the box. Let's dig in!
What's Inside The Box
Moo Moo Links, 3 oz.
Murray is a mad man. He is definitely motivated by food, and these treats were just sending him into hysterics. This jerky treat is made from USA farm-raised beef without any grain fillers.
Here I have captured the many phases of treat taking. First picture is sheer joy, second is animal instinct, and the third is just full-on attack the treat while being adorably aware and gentle of mom's fingers.
Clucky Soft Bakes, 4 oz.
Murray loved this delectable soft-baked, chicken treat. It is the perfect texture for my little guy; he doesn't like to work too much for his food, so the lack of crunch was definitely favorable. Bark Box notoriously takes excellent care into what they put into their treats, so there are no weird fillers that you can't pronounce in their goodies.
The vibe here is very different from above. With such a savory treat, you must take the time to savor the flavor.
The Pet Gourmet Chew Stick Beef Recipe, 1.35oz - Retail Value $2.49
Mur loves a good chewy! They are considered a special snack in this house, so when he gets one he just can't believe his luck. Chickpea, beef, and pea flour make up the protein in this gem, and Murray couldn't have eaten it any faster. I love the short ingredient list, because we have to treat our babies with the very best, right?
Just look at this gentle king.
Bearly Sleepy Slipper Toy
Murray used to be a little reserved when it came to toys, but ever since his human brother came along, he has been more playful than ever. He is obsessed with Barkbox's loud, colorful and crinkly toys. This month's theme is incredibly cute, and I honestly wouldn't mind having a pair of these slippers to wear around the house, sans the squeaker.
Murray loved tossing this toy around and rolling all around it. The crinkles drive him crazy every time.
Yank Calls Toy
This toy cracks me up. I am always impressed with this subscription's sense of humor, not to mention their puns are always on point. Murray had the most fun playing with this toy, not only because of the squeakers and crinkles, but he also loved carrying the toy around by its cord, whipping it back and forth.
Murray loved playing with this toy solo, but he really enjoyed a game of tug-of-war with my 2 year old. Ronan was pretending to get calls on the phone part, and Murray kept ripping the other side out of his hands. Things quickly escalated and before I knew it, Ronan was on my back cracking up and Murray was taking off with his toy, probably to hide it.
Misbeshaving Cream Toy
Okay. I love this sloth wearing jammies. I don't think I've ever seen a more on-theme item, and I am living for this 'Slobber Party' sloth. Murray loved grabbing his arms and pulling him here and there with all his might. This squeaker didn't get a lot of play because his arms were so enticing to gnaw on, but he didn't have any problem finding it when he wanted to.
Savage.
Verdict
This month's BarkBox was so much fun. I fell in love with the colors of this month's themed toys, and they were all so darn cute. I haven't been able to separate Murray from his new toys, and of course, as always, he is just smitten with his new treats. Every time I enter the kitchen he follows me in hoping for a taste. The quality and quantity packed into each Barkbox amazes me every month. If you are looking for a box to spoil your pup and also get your money's worth, this is it. I also want to add, if you're someone like me who hates to see nasty worn toys laying around the house, this subscription is an awesome way to keep your pup's toys in rotation and keep him guessing with each month's finds.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $35.00 a month + free shipping
VALUE BREAKDOWN
Since these products are all made by BarkBox, I was not able to get a retail value for each item. I received a total of six products this month, which averages out to about $5.83 for the $35 a month cost, which is a steal for the quality of each item. You would absolutely pay more for subpar products in a pet shop, making this subscription well worth its cost.
To Wrap Up
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! You can choose to start with January's "Slobber Party" theme or a mystery box.
