Super Chewer is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs, customized to your dog’s size. For reference, THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE MEDIUM DOG SIZE; Murray (my 23lb Corgi-Maltese mix) will be reviewing this month's toys and treats to let you know if this subscription is up to sniff... I mean snuff!
Super Chewer is great for playful pups that are a little rough with their playthings. For $45 per month, you receive two toys, two chews, two treats in every box.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
The January 2022 'Mutt Mountain Slopes' box included three toys, two bags of treats, and two chews - this is pretty typical from this subscription, but after your first box, you can tailor the subscription more for your dog's needs.
Murray has to be pretty enamored with non-plush toys to give them any attention, but he has always loved Barkbox's toys. Needless to say, he is mostly in it for the treats!
What's Inside The Box
Jerky Bars, 3 oz
These jerky bars must smell pretty good because when my husband walked in the room as I was unboxing, he asked if he could try some of my jerky. Murray really seemed impressed by this pork and bacon recipe; I had a really hard time putting these away because he was jumping all over me, trying to steal an extra helping.
Despite this vicious photo, Murray is actually a very gentle sweetie when it comes to taking a treat. Sometimes I am hesitant to give Murray any jerky treats because they can be hard for some dogs to chew and can lead to choking, but these didn't seem tough at all.
Jerky Links, 3 oz.
The jerky link treats had a profound effect on my pooch. I think Murray would have run the vacuum for me (his biggest fear) if he knew he would be rewarded with just one jerky link. USA beef is used in this bag, and once again, Murray had no problem chomping through these bad boys.
Honestly, I have never seen Murray act the way he did when he begged for these. He was having a total fit while I was trying to take his picture, he even let out a very loud, short howl!
The Pet Gourmet Chew Stick Beef Recipe, 1.35oz – Retail Value $2.49
Mur loves a good chewy! They are considered a special snack in this house, so when he gets one he just can’t believe his luck. Chickpea, beef, and pea flour make up the protein in this gem, and Murray couldn’t have eaten it any faster. I love the short ingredient list because we have to treat our babies with the very best, right?
Oh, lucky day!
Pur Luv Chicken Stick Recipe, 1oz
Like I said above, Murray rarely gets chews like this, so he was ecstatic that he got to sample two on the same day. He totally deserves them, by the way. This stick is made in the USA and doesn't include soy, corn, or wheat in case your dog has sensitivities.
Can't say no to that face.
Throwin' The Towel Toy
As heavy as this rubber toy is, I was shocked that my boy loved it so much. If it wasn't covered in fabric, I don't think he would have been as into it, but as it is, he is obsessed. This toy has two layers, the fabric covers a rubber toy, so if a dog is frisky enough to rip the fabric off, it becomes a new and different rubber toy to batter.
I won't be getting this one back.
Chuckulent Toy
As a succulent lover, I was so bummed that Murray wasn't head over heels for this pick. He picked it up a few times, but he kept getting distracted. Barkbox recommends applying peanut butter in the succulent's crevices, and I know that will be a total game-changer. This toy is BPA-free and has a squeaker that is difficult for Murray to squeak by himself.
This toy did not get a fair shake; I introduced the following toy to Murray before this one, and he just couldn't rip his attention away.
The Bubbler Toy
As soon as I saw this toy, I knew it would be Murray's main focus for a long, long time. There is a small hole in its biggest bubble where you can insert treats that randomly fall out during play. This toy is tantalizing because he can see and hear the treats 'hidden' inside, yet he can't get to them fast enough. This toy is dishwasher safe (top-rack) which will definitely make it last longer in this house; I love easy cleaning, and if he ends up loving it like his old treat-dispensing toy, I will be washing it quite often.
Obsessed!
Verdict
This month's Super Chewer was a great value for the $45 price tag. Murray absolutely loves the treats and chews included, and he can't stop rolling his new treat-dispensing toy around. It is super fun treating him every month and seeing his excitement when I bring his boxes inside the house. Murray has had a hard time getting time in with his mom since his human brother came along, so this

VALUE BREAKDOWN
Since these products are all made by BarkBox, I was not able to get a retail value for each item. I received a total of six products this month, which averages out to about $7.50 for the $45 a month cost, which is a steal for the quality of each item. You would absolutely pay more for lesser products in a pet shop, making this subscription well worth its cost.
