First Impressions
Beachly tailors subscriber boxes to your size preferences and the season. Your sizes and preferences will be saved to your account for future inquiry needs. I'm a Beachly veteran at this point but I still open every box like it's the holidays - hoping for at least one item I can put to repeated use. Once again, Beachly didn't disappoint. Having said that, it may be time to update my sizes because I'm beginning to notice a pattern.
What's Inside this Box
Helia Brewing Co. T-shirt
Beachly is not just a box of beach-themed products. It's also a box for discovery. Before opening my package, I'd never heard of Helia Brewing Co. But now? Now I know it's a California-based brewery "inspired by sun and sea." They even deliver! I also know they have a fun logo of a female (Helia?) surfer. Add that to a comfy cotton tee in seafoam green and I'm sold. I just wish the shirt was a size larger because it's way too tight on me. But it will look good under a hoodie or an unbuttoned shirt - with the opening perfectly positioned for Helia to make her presence and start a conversation.
Voyager Hooded Sweatshirt Navy
Another dark hoodie, anyone? For me, sadly, yes. Don't get me wrong - hoodies are extremely useful. I just have way too many. And, unfortunately, I don't think I'll be adding another one considering how tightly this hugs my body. But I won't lie - it's extremely soft. The kangaroo pocket is convenient. And my kid loves playing with a good drawstring. This could be the perfect piece for many. And for any fan of the Voyager brand. But as someone that doesn't feel a direct connection or affiliation with Voyager, I'll likely find someone smaller to take off my hands.
Voyager Fleece-Lined, Snap-Front Flannel
In every Beachly Box comes that one item reminding me why I enjoy the box so much. This is that item. I love a good shirt jacket. I also love flannel. Which is why I put this on right out of the box. It's comfortable, it's cozy, it's fleece-lined! The snap-front makes it easy to open and close. I really like the side pockets, too. Even the contrast color running vertically up the buttons is a nice touch. I have nothing bad to say about this item. Which is why I'm wearing it right now.
Richer Poorer Lightweight Crew Socks - retail value $14
Unlike my feelings on hoodies, you can never have too many socks. This is why these lightweight crew socks from Richer Poorer make for another great addition. I have no idea how to describe the pattern - is it a Magic Eye exercise? But it's cool and unique. They're comfy, cozy and fit like a glove so I don't have to worry about the dreaded drooping socks syndrome.
"The Sandy Handy" Metal Keychain
Keychains can be useful. But I'm not a guy who needs multiple so this likely won't make the cut. However, it's especially unique and likely to make for a fun conversation starter. It literally has the words "The Sandy Handy" engraved on it. Presumably the nickname for this hand greeting? I'm just glad no one used my last name to give me that nickname growing up.
Freesurf Magazine - Retail Value $8
Rounding out the box's contents is an issue of Freesurf Magazine aka "Hawaii's Surf Magazine." It includes a series of amazing action imagery and other surf-themed information including athlete profiles and product reviews. This month's issue features an especially cool recap from the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. If surfing is your sport, this is absolutely an issue for you. It makes for a great coffee table read and almost inspires me to grab a wetsuit, board, and hit the waves. Almost.
Verdict
It's winter already? Again? As if the first snow falling outside my window wasn't enough, this Beachly Winter Box straddling the "good life" of sun, summer, and California Breweries with warm weather gear comprises both the best (and worst?) reminder of what January in New York has to offer. Which is great! Since I don't have the luxury of moving west or south this winter, I may as well get a taste thanks to Beachly's box contents. And while I wouldn't call each piece a winner I again am coming away with a couple pieces to add to the wardrobe, highlighted by my new favorite flannel.
Remember, this box isn't cheap – but these are quality items that, once added up, equate to a great value. I estimated the subscription box's value at over $250 - over 2.5x the cost. If you're not California dreaming or wild about beach life I recommend looking elsewhere – or at least sticking to a single season (or two). But if you live near the shoreline, enjoy surfing, or simply love relaxing under the sun then this Beachly subscription box may be the perfect, convenient addition.
