My Subscription Life is a series designed to help you get to know the MSA team a little bit better. Each profile introduces a different member of the team, showcases their favorite subscriptions, and explores how subscriptions impact their lives.

In this edition of My Subscription Life, I'm going to introduce you to Kat. Kat is one of our writers, and her specialty is SEO, or search engine optimization. For those who might be new to the world of SEO, it's a special form of wizardry that entails writing fun and engaging articles that also appeal to Google's fickle algorithms. Kat has a knack for this balancing act of art and science, and we're lucky to have her on the MSA team. She's a fitness-focused lady with an interest in health and nutrition, and she's based in sunny central Florida. Read on to learn more about Kat's subscription life!

My Subscription Life: Kat

Lindsey: Kat, can you start by sharing a little bit about yourself?

Kat: I've been a year-round swimmer for nearly 20 years and qualified for the TYR Pro Series in 2020 for the 100 fly. I’ve also competed in women’s figure for bodybuilding but I’m in a long (possibly permanent) off-season for now since I enjoy food way too much.

L: What does your average Saturday look like?

K: Truth be told, every Saturday is a bit different for me. Recently, however, I’ve spent most Saturdays working on other contract roles and catching up on my hobbies. I’m the SEO Editor for two websites (The Unwinder and My College Planning Team) and also an SEO Copywriter for SHALE Magazine, so I typically work late mornings through early to mid afternoon. Then, I train at my local gym with my husband, and afterwards we usually cook dinner together. Later in the evening I try to read, catch up on podcasts, and watch documentaries.

L: Can you describe a memorable trip you’ve taken?

K: I visited the Gerace Research Centre in San Salvador in June of 2014 for a study-abroad class while I was attending Florida Gulf Coast University. I stayed there for about 2 weeks, spending the whole trip snorkeling and exploring the island to view different species and learn more about their culture.

L: When and how did you first discover subscription boxes?

KI had seen the subscription option for most of the supplements I've purchased in the past but had never really considered signing up for an actual subscription before joining MSA. Once I started working for MSA, I realized there was literally a subscription for just about anything, and now I'm hooked on learning more about them all!

L: What are your current subscriptions?

K: Right now, I only have three subscriptions. After writing my article on the best tablet toothpaste subscriptions, I decided to purchase Huppy and absolutely love it. I’m also subscribed to Beli for Women Prenatal Multi and Muscle Feast for their grass-fed whey protein concentrate, cyclic dextrin, and oat powder.

L: Which is your favorite subscription?

K: I’d say Muscle Feast is my favorite among the three since I've used this brand for several years now and have purchased the bulk of my athletic supplements and protein powder from them. Their products taste great, and you can order 5 lb tubs of their protein, which ensures that my husband and I never run empty.

L: If you could only subscribe to one box or service, which would it be?

K: Since I'm planning to have a child in the near future, I'd say that I would stick to my prenatal multivitamin from Beli, if I could only subscribe to one service.

Although I generally meet my dietary needs from my diet, it's still quite a relief to know that I can use my multi as a form of insurance for the days I don’t necessarily eat the best foods or just feel like I need additional nutrient support.

L: Describe your perfect subscription.

K: Honestly, any type of subscription that helps cover all areas of prenatal health and motherhood would be perfect for me. I know this could span literally dozens of products, but I would want my subscription to cover all stages of motherhood, and extend from pre-pregnancy through breastfeeding and beyond. Perhaps some of my favorite items would include birth affirmations, home birth supplies, organic baby clothing, cloth diapers, natural baby products, and anything up that alley.

L: Do you have a favorite subscription category to write about?

K: I'd have to say anything health-related is my favorite to cover, like multivitamins and supplements, but working for MSA has actually helped me to enjoy covering a wider variety of topics, especially meal kits.

L: Which subscription item(s) that you’ve received in the past is the most memorable? Why did it make such an impact on you?

K: I'd say that Taste Crate was the most fun subscription I've tried out so far! I'm not a huge snacker, but I genuinely loved trying each snack that was included within my box. It even had freeze-dried ice cream in it - I haven't had that since I was like 8 years old, so that was super cool. My husband and I literally ate the snacks within 2-3 days... oops!

Thanks so much, Kat!
