Welcome to our new series at My Subscription Addiction, where we share our workouts of the week. With a new year in place, I know many people have a resolution to work out more, and I’m here to join you. My personal subscription addiction is to all things fitness - I’ve been addicted since I discovered group fitness in college, and even started my own fitness studio a few years ago. Of course, fitness has changed a lot over the last few years, and I’ve now shifted my workouts to be from home.
This week, I am going to share some workouts I did from my new lululemon Studio. More specifically, their barre classes. I love doing a barre class after a cardio workout (or on its own) to really get in lengthening and toning work. Although the classes use light weights, don’t let that fool you - the high rep count means every muscle on your body will be burning by the end of class.
For people unfamiliar with The lululemon Studio Mirror, it’s a literal mirror that you stream group fitness classes on. When not in use, it functions as an actual mirror, so this equipment works double time. They have a wide variety of classes, ranging from stretching to barre to boxing to cardio boot camp. You can filter through the (massive) class library by type of workout, length of workout, equipment needed, instructor, or difficulty level.
My Workout Class This Week: lululemon Studio Barre
Instructor: Julie | Level: Advanced | Time: 45 minutes
I actually had taken Julie’s classes many years ago at Physique 57, so I was excited to find her on the lululemon Studio platform. I always found the Physique 57 classes challenging and effective, so my expectations were high for this class. I will tell you now: she definitely delivered! I was sore the next day (which is rare for me).
Like all lululemon Studio classes, you can see the moves for class in the app ahead of time. I must tell you - I found some of the names a little deceiving. I saw “inner thigh pulses” and naturally thought it would target my inner thighs, but it definitely targeted my outer glutes more. This came in the middle of a very long outer glute series and I’d been looking forward to a little reprieve. But, it’s always nice to feel a burn when working out. I also really liked that the outer glute series incorporated arm workouts. I was not expecting this class to work my shoulders as much as it did, so I was very pleasantly surprised by this.
I paired the Apple Music Pop Workout playlist with this class and found that the music motivated me and matched the tone of the class well - upbeat, but nothing too crazy. Julie’s motivation throughout and constant tweaking of exercises (whether changing tempo or adding in an upper body movement) made the class fly by. I’ll definitely be taking more of her barre classes in the future!
