Hi Lauren,
Thank you for the question! Hopefully more people see it and chime in. Everyone’s taste is so different that it’s hard to recommend something that everyone will agree with. To be honest, at this point, Allure is the one subscription that I recommend without reservation. It has a nice mix of skincare and makeup and sometimes hair care. They used to include nail polish and perfume occasionally, but they don’t really do that anymore, sadly.
I do like Nourish. They have great customer service. They will let you skip a month if you contact them directly. Unfortunately, I just have too much skincare at the moment, and I canceled Nourish for now.
Speaking of skin care, See New is another great skin care box. They have great reviews and also have amazing customer service, and you can also skip months. They are a bit more expensive.
I feel like Birchbox is dying, and I am canceling it. I was subscribed to Goddess Provisions. It is a nice box if you are into New Age spirituality, the Zodiac, moon phases, and things like that, but I am not, and I canceled it, too. But it is a nice box overall with a mix of crystals, spiritual tools, some home decor/candles, some self-care items, lots of teas, and some snacks.
I subscribed to Ipsy for a year to lock in the lower price before their recent increase. I like it, but I realize it isn’t for everyone. They have a mix of skincare and makeup, also, and they do include nail polish and some fragrance. You can skip months, which is nice, and you get a little makeup pouch every month. So I recommend it if you are into beauty and samples.
NewBeauty Test Tube is interesting. It is bimonthly and includes a wide array of beauty products and some supplements, but it seems like it is going downhill lately, too.
I used to get FabFitFun, but they seem to be recycling a lot of their products, and many subscribers seem to be unhappy with them lately. But if you are into lifestyle boxes, it is probably one of the best out there.
I actually get and enjoy the much maligned Singles Swag. It is fun and has a mix of products, but to be honest they have a lot of no name brand skincare, and their jewelry tends to not be that attractive. They include a snack every month.
Skylar is great if you want a fragrance only subscription, and each month they release a brand new fragrance that they created, and it all uses clean ingredients.
Boxycharm is good for makeup lovers, I guess. They also include skin care. I’m going to cancel in a month or so because I just don’t use enough makeup to justify getting the box.
I get Glossybox and have mixed feelings about it. I would not recommend getting locked into an annual sub with them. I’m going to see if they do something special for Valentines Day and then maybe cancel, although they are well known for their Easter boxes and their Mother’s Day boxes, too, so I might stick around through May. You can buy the Easter egg and the Mother’s Day boxes without being a subscriber, but you get them cheaper if you are a subscriber.
A box that I don’t get that I am interested in trying is TheraBox. They include a monthly “happiness” activity and then some self-care items.
What about you, Lauren? What type of boxes do you like? Do you have any that you would recommend?
