First Impressions
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
Quirky Crate showcases one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features Margo from BansenArt. She's an artist from Russia who designed two items in this month's box, a sticker, and an enamel pin. This info card gives you some insight into her background as well as some social media info.
On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Y2K Holiday," featuring some accessories and flair with cute and nostalgic 'tude.
Time to get quirky!
Yin & Yang Purse - Listed Value $30
I remember doodling yin-yangs constantly during the '00s, so as soon as I pulled this out of the box, the inner 14-year-old girl that is still inside of me squealed. It's a cute, textured bag with lots of room inside for emergency butterfly clips, a spare Bumpit, and maybe a tie in case you are feeling a little punk rock.
Made with Love Necklace - Listed Value $15
This necklace may have been 'Made with Love', but I think it was also made with a tween's neck in mind. I know chokers are supposed to be tight, but dang, my beefy neck needs a little more room to swallow. Every bead used in this necklace is nostalgic for me. My friends and I used to make each other bracelets in middle school, but they were never this colorful (beads are/were expensive!). My favorites are the skulls and smiley faces, of course. Are there any that are especially nostalgic to you?
Flaming Heart Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10
Is this what a 'hunk of burnin' love' looks like? Even though red and yellow are not my favorite colors together, I can't help but love this flaming heart on fire. This reminds me more of a symbol from the '80s or an emoji from today, but I am sure people had flaming hearts in the '00s as well.
Lime Sunnies - Listed Value $22
These sunnies are giving me Elton, and I am living for it. If you've read any of my past Quirky Crate reviews, you know my stance on funky eyewear; it is always a 'yes' for me!
The lime is a bold pop of color some people might shy away from, but I love bold accessories. I think the trick is to keep one or two bold pieces and keep the rest neutral, or you can just go wild and be a walking, talking rainbow; I never really cared for fashion rules, anyway.
Smiley Socks - Listed Price $8
I give Quirky Crate a lot of credit because we get new socks every month, and they always deliver a completely unique and amazing pair. I'd like to have these in every color, please. I went through a smiley face phase when I was 12 and it is still going strong 20 years later. Imagine my reaction when emojis started being a thing. These are a great medium thickness, and they fit me perfectly (I am a women's 7.5).
Save the Pandas Winter Headband - Listed Price $16
Pandas are my husband's favorite animal, so I almost lost this to him, but then Ronan swooped in, and I'll probably never see this headband again. It is a shame because it is soft, comfortable and obviously very cute.
He regrets nothing.
iPod Sticker - Listed Price $4
I always wanted an iPod in a funky color, but I was never able to get one. This sticker is cute, especially with that smile! This month's featured artist, Margo from BansenArt designed this sticker, and she has many more designs in her shop.
Wide Tooth Comb - Listed Price $12
It is kismet that a new comb found me this month because the comb I kept in the shower just sadly fell apart. This one is much cuter, and it does a fine job sorting tangles in mine and Ronan's mops. The color combo reminds me of cotton candy, and I like the subtle shine of confetti throughout the comb.
The Verdict
December's Quirky Crate was a hit! I absolutely love nostalgic themes, and the '00 era made me who I am today. I am still obsessed with smiley faces and yin-yangs, and I'll never pass up a beaded necklace or fun pair of sunnies. This box is the most fun to unbox out of all of my subscriptions, and I look forward to seeing the theme and how its items tie in every month. The total value of this box adds up to $117, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost.
