Community Weigh-In is a new weekly series that polls the community on a range of subscription-related topics. Each week, we'll pose a new question to the community and then share the results here in the feed. Hop over to the MSA Forum to cast your vote for next week's poll!
As a group of passionate boxinistas, this community knows a thing or two about subscriptions, and you all have opinions. I've watched you debate whether spoilers are a zero or a hero, sing the praises of those perfect didn't-even-know-I-needed-it items, and suggest ways that a lackluster shipment could have been great with a few small tweaks. As a community, we may not always agree on what constitutes the perfect subscription, but we sure do have fun talking it out.
With that in mind, I thought it might be fun to launch a new weekly series that gives you all a chance to do just that. Each week, I'll pose a new question in the MSA Forum, and then I'll round up the results to share with you all here in the feed. Last week, I asked:
Which of these celebrity subscription boxes would you sign up for in a heartbeat, no spoilers necessary?
Here are the choices:
- Cutting-edge health and wellness from Gwyneth Paltrow
- Lifestyle items from the Kardashians
- Cool and trendy finds from Zendaya + Tom Holland
- Family-oriented items with a side of sass from Ryan Reynolds + Blake Lively
- A box to help you alienate acquaintances and lose friends from Larry David
- Hilarious weirdness from Pete Davidson
- A sport and cooking mashup subscription from Steph + Ayesha Curry
- All of the above
- None of the above
With 35% of the vote, Blake & Ryan came out on top, but Zendaya & Tom were right on their heels with 32%. 19% of you would try a box from Gwyneth Paltrow (can you imagine the price point on this one?), and another 19% would sign up for a Pete Davidson box. 16% are all-in with the Kardashians. At the end of the pack, we have Larry David with 9% of the vote, and Steph + Ayesha Curry with only 3%.
Quite a few people selected "none of the above," but hopped into the replies to make alternate suggestions:
I’ve always thought a Bravo Real Housewives box would be fun. It could be a mix of their own products and things they suggest. -amiradyer
Oh what about a box from Chip & Joanna Gaines?! I’d sign my mom and myself up without a single spoiler. I love their style and their items are always of a good quality. -kate.kemp
In general a celeb name as a solo thing is going to be a major turn off since I generally expect celebrity branded items to be lesser quality, and sub boxes often already get cheaply made versions of things so I’m not likely to risk the cheap version of the cheap version. I don’t mind so much when an established brand puts out something with a celeb attached, like Ipsy GBX, (although if a Kardashian has put their name directly on it I will run the other way, sorry ipsy). There are a few exceptions, but they’re already established brands that I trust decently well, like if Rhianna did a Fenty subscription I might be in, or if Selena Gomez did a Rare Beauty subscription. But that would depend a lot on price point, subscriptions are about value to me and a celeb name often inflates the msrp but decreases the quality. -comedytragedy
I would immediately subscribe to any Chrissy Teigen box, I know she’s a little controversial now but I love her cookbooks and kitchen stuff. -mandi
