First Impressions
I love the black and white monochromatic theme of this month’s GlossyBox and the inspirational quote included on the lid. The theme was ‘Timeless Treats.’
Each month GlossyBox usually arrives with a booklet that includes a list of all the products included in that month's box.
What's Inside The Box
NCLA BEAUTY Back to Black, 13.3 ml - Retail Value $16.00
I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of this polish at first because I’ve very rarely found black polishes to be opaque, and they usually require two or three coats. But this polish from NCLA Beauty applied like a dream. One coat, and I got a beautiful, opaque, glossy shade of black that reminds me of my favorite faux leather jacket. It was easy to apply and went on smooth and opaque. It dried quickly and stayed put even without a top coat. While black may not be my favorite color of polish, I definitely want to try more shades from this brand, simply because of the quality.
VERSO SKINCARE Nourishing Cream, 15 ml - Estimated Retail Value $28.71
I’ve had the opportunity to try this Verso Skincare Nourishing Cream before. It’s a very hydrating, luxurious yet thin cream that doesn’t feel too heavy and absorbs fairly quickly into my skin. It has a very subtle scent that is a little too perfume-y for me personally, but it does leave my face feeling super soft and buoyant, and I haven’t experienced any irritation or sensitivity while using this product. Formulated with niacinamide and B3, this nourishing cream works to improve natural protection and the appearance of soft, smooth, and radiant skin.
KAB COSMETICS Cream Lipstick in Sweetheart, 3.5 g - Retail Value $18.00
This is my first time ever using a KAB Cosmetics lipstick. The texture feels absolutely amazing. It glides on smoothly and feels creamy and hydrating and doesn't dry down, leaving my mouth feeling crusty like some other lipsticks I’ve tried. What I really liked about this lipstick is that it had the scent of a delicious warm vanilla cupcake. The color is a bubble gum pink, and while the shade didn’t quite show up on my lips, the product definitely felt hydrating and was comfortable for all-day wear.
Here is a swatch of the KAB Cosmetics Sweetheart Lipstick.
VITA LIBERATA Fabulous Self-Tanning Gradual Lotion, 50 ml - Estimated Retail Value $5.00
I’ve been blessed with a perma-tan, so this product is a little outside of my purview. What I did notice is that this tanning lotion is virtually scentless. It is a thick, colorless cream that was very easy to apply and absorbed quickly, leaving behind no greasy residue. I don’t tan; one, because I don’t feel like I need to, and two, because the sun is scary, so I can’t say I noticed any difference in my skin tone. I’m a little disappointed that such a non-inclusive product would be included in a subscription box with no variation or preference selection option. That being said, I will be passing this on to a fairer-skinned friend of mine who I’m sure will appreciate it.
NATURA Ekos Murumuru Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner, 30 ml each - Estimated Retail Value $5.70
I absolutely love the scent of this shampoo and conditioner pair. I’m usually not one for strongly scented hair products, but this has a delicious natural cocoa butter like scent that I truly enjoy. The shampoo was very hydrating and left my hair feeling smooth and clean but not stripped. It worked up into a nice lather, and I was easily able to get two washes out of this sample, which gave me a sample to actually see the benefits. The conditioner smells just as good and left my hair feeling silky and looking shiny and less frizzy. Even though both products were incredibly hydrating, they didn’t weigh down my curls or leave behind any film or residue. This duo is formulated with murumuru butter extracted from the seeds of a plant native to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil to help recover hair’s natural elasticity, repair damage, and create a nourishing, protective shield that works to control frizz, restore softness, and make hair more manageable and shiny.
RODIAL Dragon’s Blood Eye Mask, 1 pair - Retail Value $6.00
I’m a night owl forced to rise as an early bird, so a good eye mask is my best friend. This Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Mask not only has a cool name but is eye-catching and just makes me want to use it. I feel like I’m in some mythical novel, opening up a magic potion that’s going to keep me eternally young. In reality, the mask definitely visibly reduced the puffiness under my eyes and left the delicate skin under my eyes feeling intensely hydrated. One thing I will say is to be very careful when removing the protective fabric sheet before applying these eye masks. They are very thin and adhere well to the skin but they are very delicate. There is virtually no scent to this eye mask, which I appreciate.
Verdict
I enjoyed the whole vibe of this month’s GlossyBox, from the monochromatic black and white box, to the black nail lacquer. NCLA Beauty’s Back to Black polish impressed me with how opaque and easy to apply it was, and I truly enjoyed the Rodial Dragon’s Blood eye mask. The mask visibly de-puffed my tired eyes, giving me a more bright and alert appearance in just minutes. I was also delighted with the delicious vanilla scent and the comfortable wear of the KAB Cosmetics Sweetheart lipstick. NATURA Ekos' shampoo and conditioner duo had a heavenly scent and left my hair feeling shiny, smooth, and much more manageable. The luxuriously nourishing Verso Skincare cream left my skin feeling soft and supple. Even though the scent wasn’t for me, I am very impressed with the brand’s quality. Lastly, the Vita Liberata self-tanning lotion will be a fun treat to pass along to a friend of mine who’s looking for a glowing tan without wanting to risk the sun damage. Overall, I think this was a very solid GlossyBox. It didn’t give me any Valentine’s Day vibes, but I love the whole concept of ‘timeless treats.’
