First Impressions

As always, my goodies arrived in the pink IPSY bubble mailer and a drawstring back. The February design is all over hearts in red and pink!

It looks like my info card was MIA this month.

Now, on to the items!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate® Glow Moisturizer, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $70

FYI: The packaging for my IPSY item is slightly different than the retail packaging, but the size is the same.

I tend to really enjoy a cream that has both moisturizing and exfoliating powers and this one does both quite well with a mixture of lactic acid, squalane, and glycolic acids. It also boasts ferments from radish and pumpkin which bring in antibacterial properties as well as hyaluronic acid. I have tried this product before and really like it, despite the wee bit of Myristyl Alcohol which has a pretty high irritancy rating. Luckily, I haven't had issues there (likely because it is pretty far down the ingredient list!). If you are looking for a solid daily moisturizer but you also want gentle exfoliation, this pretty pale blue cream is worth a try.

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm in 'Thankful', 2.8 g - Retail Value $16

I absolutely love Rare Beauty and this lip balm was so smooth and delightful. I have tried the clear version of this before and thought it had a slightly weird taste, though this one seems to not share that issue. The color isn't exactly ideal for me unless I have on some makeup (the brown kind of washes me out if I have a bare face) but the formula makes me ready to buy other more flattering shades. It has a sweet scent amazing coverage and the smoothest most buttery texture! And at $16 a pop? Take my money, Selena.

DefineMe Fragrance Kahana Aquamarine Crystal Infused Natural Perfume Mist, 0.9 fl oz - Retail Value $40

Before we dive into this perfume, I must admit that I am a big perfume snoot. While I have a pretty massive collection, my favorites are from the likes of Tom Ford and Chanel, with random niche houses like D.S. and Durge and ARQUISTE making appearances too. I am not really a "signature scent" kind of gal, but generally, my faves are often eye-watering expensive. This one is very easy to love and downright affordable! The notes remind me very much of Replica's Beach Walk if you are into that scent, though it doesn't smell quite as expensive if that makes sense. It is sunny, not too sweet, and has that natural sort of coconut note blended with pepper and woods. It smells like the beach and clean, warm skin. I found it to be extremely easy to wear and the sillage is right in that sweet spot for me.

ECLAT SKIN LONDON Purifying Black Peel-Off Mask, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $48

Peel-off masks are not my favorite. I find them harsh and painful because I have a very furry face! This one also felt super harsh because of the alcohol content. In fact, there really wasn't a ton of anything good happening in the ingredient list if I am being blunt. Glycerine was the only thing I would really be excited about. Big pass for me.

Glamnetic x IPSY Press On Nails

I received these back in my Glam Bag X in August of 2021 and I absolutely adored them.

I couldn't resist these nails. My own nails are pretty sad-looking. They are short and flimsy, and just not great. I used to get an acrylic overlay like clockwork but since I spend a lot of my time covered in cleansers and oils, I stopped that about a year ago and just have natural nails. That doesn't mean I don't want something more dramatic every once in a while though! These are press-ons that arrived with an orangewood stick, mini file, glue, and an alcohol pad. It is super easy to size them to your nails and glue them on for instant nail magic. I especially love the nude + lilac combo because it is more subtle but still feels special.

So, this was a happy repeat for me. Something about the transparent pinkish-nude and lilac tips really works and with spring coming up? Yes, please.

Verdict

This month's IPSY Glam Bag Plus felt a little random, but I have to admit that I liked 4 of the 5 things inside. Which, isn't really a bad haul! The perfume was an incredibly pleasant surprise and I knew I was going to love that balm. The nails were a welcome repeat (I have a big event coming up!) and the cream works well. The peel-off mask was the only dud, but I still thing this month was a win!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I ordered a glam bag in January and I still have received nothing. And now they can’t find my account or that I ordered anything I had to send copies of my bank statement!

The only item that I am receiving that is the same is the peel off mask. I think I all got a peel off mask in NewBeauty Test Tube. I was watching some skin care videos on YouTube – videos by actual dermatologists – and one said to never use a peel off mask. I’m sorry you had to test it for your review, Megan. I’m not sure what I want to do with mine – keep, swap, give away? I hate to trash it, but if it is an item that isn’t good for anyone, should I really pass it on to someone else?

My bag isn’t scheduled to arrive until 3/1. Don’t think I am getting any of the same products.

What is the point of getting x bag when they go and put the items in a cheaper bag? Hummm

My thoughts exactly! I wish the nails had been an option for the x bag! I’m so tired of getting clear brow gel. 😭

The nails were a choice for a previous box. I am forgetting which month I got them. August?

Hi Megan – thank you as always for your honesty! One thing I noticed was that this month, you didn’t delineate which were ipsy’s picks and which were your picks. Not a big deal, of course, but I enjoy that information and seeing your taste. They picked the Kate Somerville moisturizer for me, and I am really enjoying it. One last note is that it’s “myristil alcohol,” not capitalized. I don’t know why companies capitalize ingredient names, which they shouldn’t, and I get that the volume of work for MSA staff means that they frequently just copy and paste from the company’s info, but ingredient names are never capitalized unless there’s a proper noun involved, and only that part is capitalized. So, for instance, “myristil alcohol” but “St. John’s wort.”
