First Impressions

Beachly Beauty is switching from a monthly subscription to a quarterly subscription and will be releasing fall, winter, spring, and summer boxes.

The Beauty Products

PIRETTE Mini Fragrance Oil, 7.5 ml - Retail Value $28.00

Right off the bat, I was impressed with this mini fragrance oil by Pirette. I am not a perfume lover, to begin with. Most fragrances smell like a grandma to me, but I really love the scent of this oil. It’s an amazing warm, salty-sweet, sophisticated scent that reminds me of all things ‘beachy.’ It has notes of coconut, surf wax, and sunscreen that blend together to create this iconic beach scent. I also really appreciate that the product is alcohol-free, which makes it great for my sensitive skin and also eliminates the harsh ‘after smell’ that a lot of perfumes and fragrances have. The oil warms up with your body heat, helping to radiate the scent, and a little goes a long way; the smell of tropics will linger for up to 12 hours. The elegant glass roller bottle makes it easy to apply the fragrance precisely where you want it.

BEACH RINSE Maui, Hawaii Scrub, 80 ml - Estimated Retail Value $8.78

I grew up in East Harlem, so I don’t know how to swim, and I probably will never surf. In fact, I might have a phobia of large bodies of water, but I do enjoy the beach and the ambiance surrounding it. This soak scrub rinse is like a tropical vacation in a jar. It has a delightfully balanced scent of pineapple and coconut that reminds me of a piña colada. I used the product as a scrub in the shower, and it was truly an enjoyable experience. The exfoliant is sugar-sized sea salt but soft and not harsh or abrasive on my skin. It removes any dull or dry skin patches, leaving behind smooth, fresh skin and the delicious scent of Maui.

HANALEI The Kukui Lip Balm Trio, 4.35 g x3 - Retail Value $20.00

I’m always on the hunt for lip balm with SPF. I feel like my lips don’t get nearly enough sun protection. Hanalei’s SPF 15 lip balm feels wonderful on my lips. It glides on smoothly and is delightfully moisturizing. It doesn’t feel like I’m rubbing wax onto my mouth; it’s very lightweight, and even though I have to reapply throughout the day, this balm is smooth and creamy and leaves my mouth feeling soothed and hydrated. The scent of 'Island Mint’ smells much more delicious than it sounds, and ‘Tropical Citrus’ smells like a combo of all the best juicy tropical fruits. I also like that an unscented balm was included in this trio for days that I would prefer an unscented product.

SOON SKINCARE The Soon Starter Kit, 3 masks - Retail Value $20.00

I love Soon Skincare and K-beauty in general, and I’ve always been very impressed with Soon’s masks. This starter kit delivers an effective punch of hydration, leaving my skin glowing and super soft and buoyant. The kit includes a face mask, a pair of under-eye hydrogel patches, and a lip mask. I really love that the curation of this box included a whole mask kit like this. I love to put the eye patches and the lip mask underneath the face mask to hold them in place, and get the full effect of the brand’s line. The bio cellulose texture of the face mask prevents slippage and hugs every curve and crevice of your face while feeling cool and refreshing on the skin.

Verdict

I really love this Beachly Beauty Box. I think I can say hands down this is the best smelling box I’ve ever received from any subscription. The delicious natural fragrance of the Beach Rinse scrub wafted out enticingly before I even opened the box. I love how gently this product exfoliates my skin and the delightful tropical scent it leaves behind. I was also floored that I found the fragrance oil so delightful, but the combination of the all-natural scents and ingredients in this alcohol-free fragrance completely won me over. Soon Skincare’s starter kit came with every single mask I needed for an at-home self-care spa day, and the brand really delivered a hydrating glow to my skin. Lastly, the Hanalei SPF lip balm trio; I love the tropical theme and the SPF included in the formula. It’s great to know that the product is working double tim: not only moisturizing but also protecting the sensitive skin on my lips from the sun. Overall, I have to say, I was very impressed with this box and I truly enjoyed each and every product in this month’s curation.

Even though this seems a little steep for a sub-box (aren’t we a;; so spoiled, lol?), I love the curation…Hanalei makes some good lip products. That perfume/oil rollerball smells divine. And is almost enough to make me subscribe! Haven’t used the Soon masks but haven’t heard a bad thing yet about them….Thx for the review.

The review is just now coming out when this quarterly box is about to bill and ship again. I’m going to have to skip. The pirette has been sent to me several times, and I don’t care for it. The Soon masked were 10 for $8 at Costco, and the lip balms have made the sub box rounds. With no spoilers, I’m afraid spring will be another disappointment. The boxes sounded so promising.

AH

I agree that the beauty box is a no-go. I like Beachly, but I think their efforts to do a beauty box in addition to regular box, are going to fall short. Being a fairly small enterprise (rather than something huge like Ipsy/FabFitFun) I would imagine they don’t have access to a hugely wide variety of items; they seem to rotate the same brands…probably the ones they stock in their store. While that works for their lifestyle box, it’s tougher for a beauty box. We’ll have to see how it continues…but for now there are much better options for beauty boxes. I wish I loved it, because I like to support smaller, indie brands…
