This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

We always enjoy when there is a seasonal book in the bunch (although you can opt not to have them in your shipment if you prefer) and Helga's story looked like it would be a fun one, so I thought this might be a great box for us!

Inside the Lillypost March 2022 Box

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month is all about robots.

We're Going on an Egg Hunt by Martha Mumford - Listed Value $7.99

I really love this little book and so do my kids! It's similar to the "going on a bear hunt" story, so there is a bit of repetitiveness which is fun, and there are also little flaps to find and lift which go in number order. This was great number identification practice for my 3-year-old! Not only was it a cute story with great illustrations and some tactile fun with the flaps, but the ending was a bit surprising with a twist that we didn't see coming! It makes this little tale even more enjoyable!

Playing Possum by Jennifer Black Reinhardt - Listed Value $17.99

Everyone knows that possums like to play dead, but what happens when you have a very nervous possum? It makes it awfully difficult to make friends! This is the case in our story here as Alfred is very nervous until he makes an unlikely friend in Sofia, an armadillo who curls into a ball whenever she gets scared. Since they understand one another, they are able to be patient while they each work through their fears, and this leads to a great friendship! This was a very cute book with pretty illustrations and there was even a glossary of animals in the back. My kids love animals, so these descriptions were very much appreciated by them!

Helga Makes a Name for Herself by Megan Maynor - Listed Value $17.99

This last book was my daughter's favorite. Helga is a "farmersdotter" who longs to be a Viking, but nobody seems to believe in her abilities. When she learns that her favorite Viking is coming to town to find some more Vikings to join her, she sets off to join the competition. While she fails at some tasks, it turns out she does have some unique abilities, and she is able to show everyone what she is actually capable of, much to their disbelief. This was a cute story with just a bit of silliness to it and I think my daughter enjoyed the style of illustrations as did I. There was even a little note from the author at the back with some Viking info that was very interesting to read!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
