First Impressions
Spring is almost here, and I am 110% ready for it! On this sunny March morning it is currently -10 and windy. With temps like that, I can't think of anything better than drinking a hot cup of coffee while practicing a little self-care utilizing the products I received in this quarter's Spring Walmart Beauty Box. I have to say, this quarter was pretty good. Read below to see for yourself.
This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the entire self-care collection offered for spring. Interestingly enough, only two of the shown products included details, while the other twelve only listed their full-size value. It was stated each box would include seven items and be based off your beauty profile.
Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier, Golden Cherry - Estimated Value - $1.50 - Buy a pack of 6 for $8.98
More electrolyte powder mix?! I have to be honest and say that I was more than a little disappointed to see a package of Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier in this box yet again. I've shared before I'm more of a plain water kind of gal, and while I did receive a different flavor, I'm just not into it. Although quite tart, it definitely did not remind me of those juicy golden Rainier cherries I can't wait to get my hands on in summer. If you are looking for a new way to hydrate, this might be an exciting inclusion, but I'm left feeling meh.
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare Weightless Water Cream Face Moisturizer - Estimated Value - $0.47 - Buy a 2.0 oz container for $14.98
Have I mentioned I'm not a huge fan of foil samples? Besides being hard to open, the one-time use factor doesn't leave me hurrying to the store for more. That being said, I was intrigued by the "72-hour hydration" detail and thought it would be interesting to try. Milky white and medium in consistency, I was drawn to the light "green/plant based" smell this water cream had. Like my typical moisturizer, this cream went on smooth but didn't leave my skin feeling greasy, though maybe a bit tacky. The enclosed info mentioned it also included a primer, which I honestly didn't notice, but felt nice anyways. As far as the 72-hour hydration goes, it was hard for me to tell if it worked that long. Between showers and my daily make-up I didn't notice much of a difference, but maybe with a larger sample it would be easier to distinguish.
Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo & Conditioner - Estimated Value - $1.25 - Buy a 24.5 oz set of shampoo and conditioner for $5.12
Because I have salon highlighted hair, I usually use Redken or Nexxus shampoo, but since they typically don't come in travel size containers, this Garnier Fructis set worked great for our snowmobiling trip! About every two years my husband and I will drop the boys off at my sister's house and go on an overnight date, and it just so happened to be this weekend! (Can you tell we are homebodies?) It just so worked out that my husband and I were able to pack a backpack and drive 300 miles (roundtrip) on our snowmobiles to a resort way up north. After a long (and chilly) ride, we had a lovely meal, watched the high school hockey tournament and hit the hay. Once awake, I jumped in the shower and was happy to have these extra-large (yet still travel-sized) bottles of goodness as the hotel versions were terrible. A little different than my usual, but nicely scented and sudsy, I really did appreciate the fact there was plenty for both myself and my husband, and they didn't take up a lot of space. Yay!
TruSkin Vitamin C Serum - Estimated Value $9.98 - Buy a 1 oz bottle for $19.99
As I've entered my 30s, I have tried multiple serums and moisturizers to help my skin age as gracefully as possible. My routine pretty much changes based on items I receive in my subscription boxes, so I was excited to see a vitamin C serum as it's been a while since I've used one. With a light, oil-like consistency, this serum went on easily and without being greasy. Because I have acne prone skin, I get a little worried with new products, but found this to seriously brighten my dull winter complexion. After a week of use, I honestly could see a difference in my skin! I can't wait to see what it looks like in a month! - I'll keep you posted!
Lottie London Slay All Day Matte Liquid Lipstick - FULL SIZE! (Similar version found here for $6.98)
Not listed in the pamphlet, I received this pretty mauve colored liquid lipstick from Lottie London. Interestingly enough, I can't find this exact container and color on the Walmart or Lottie website, so I'm not sure if this is old stock or not. I must say, the color is fantastic, with a pretty good staying power. I wore it to school and didn't have to touch it up often at all. I did however notice the very potent smell of this product, which was almost sickeningly sweet. It diminished after a few moments, but whew it was a little strong (and not very tasty!) Did anyone else receive this and notice the scent?!
Found Firming Argan Sheet Mask - FULL SIZE! Retail Value - $1.98
I love sheet masks, so when I found this at the bottom of this quarter's box, I was thrilled. Though not listed in the pamphlet, I was excited to read that this particular mask "firms and smooths for a more youthful-looking complexion" and is 94% natural. This mask is formulated without parabens, SLS/SLES, synthetic fragrance, phthalates, PEGs, and mineral oil and was manufactured in South Korea. After a long day at school, I applied this mask over my freshly washed face and sat for 20 minutes, scaring my kids and husband. 😂 After peeling it off, I patted the excess serum in and got ready for bed. Did I notice a drastic change in my skin's appearance? No, no I did not, but it made for an entertaining 20 minutes, and my skin maybe felt a little softer, so I'm calling that a win.
The morning after my Found sheet mask and Garnier shampoo, I applied my new vitamin C serum and lottie lipstick for a day at the office.
Verdict
Walmart Beauty Box has been on the up and up lately, and I feel this season was pretty decent. I received seven items, and though I am not a fan of the drink powder and wasn't real impressed with the size of the water cream, I was excited for the new lipstick, vitamin C serum, and face mask. The $6.98 price point was $2 less than the serum's value, which in itself is a pretty darn good deal. What did you think about this box? Did you receive the same variation?
The total value of this quarter's box came out to be about $22.16 which is three times the cost of the box! Receiving the full-sized serum, lipstick, and face mask made this box worth it to me, and I actually needed that travel sized shampoo and conditioner set! I thought this was a good deal, even if the lipstick was likely old stock. How about you?
