BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs for $35 a month + free shipping. BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. Murray, my 10-year-old Corgi-Maltese will be testing these products to let us know if this subscription is up to sniff... I mean snuff!
If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
The April 2022 'Jackpawt' box included three toys, two bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.
Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.
Murray can sense when he gets a package, and he was literally pushing this one around my living room, practically begging me to unbox it with him. Let's dig in!
What's Inside The Box
Baa Baa Biscuits, 4 oz.
It was almost like Murray could smell these treats even before I opened the packaging. He was acting like a lunatic when I finally opened the bag. These biscuits are the perfect size for a midday snack. They are made with grass-fed lamb, oatmeal, and real cheddar cheese, and do not contain any added wheat, soy, or corn. I love that this snack is made in the USA with wholesome ingredients and without any unnecessary fillers.
Yum!
Gobble Jerky Bars, 3 oz.
Here is another treat that absolutely drove my pup berserk. Contrary to what his vet may think, Murray is actually pretty picky when it comes to food and treats. He snubs hard, crunchy biscuits, but when it comes to soft, meaty, chewy snacks, he will do any trick necessary to get his paws on another and another! These jerky squares were right up his alley! The main ingredients are turkey, peas, and pumpkin, and also formulated, for the most part, without any ingredients I can't pronounce.
Mouth-watering good.
Pur Luv Pork Stick Recipe, 1oz
Murray can't get enough of the chewy sticks from BarkBox. Chickpea, beef, and pea flour make up the protein in this gem, and Murray couldn't have eaten it any faster. I love the short ingredient list, because our babies deserve the very best quality.
He's truly in heaven.
Clark the Card Shark
This toy is Murray and I's favorite from this month. He loves the crinkled fins, and I love its toothy grin. This soft plush is dense enough to withstand Murray's tossing and a little tug-of-war, and it has a squeaker that delights. Mur and I had fun with this little guy, and I can't help but chuckle every time I see this Card Shark's little vest and bowtie.
Got 'em!
Slot Muttchine
I am not much of a gambler, but Murray couldn't help but pull the arm of this slot toy mercilessly. I don't think he won anything, but he had a blast playing his odds. This chunky plush has a little treat trap on the front that you can hide little treats in to take your play up a notch.
Mur loves a plush toy to nom on and to snuggle with during naps.
Beagle Tender
This toy is a great size for Murry to tote around. He loved the crinkle effects and really liked swinging this around by the strap. The cute Elvis pup on the stack of bills is adorbs and totally fits in with this month's theme "Jackpawt".
He's got his mind (and teeth) on his money.
Verdict
This month's BarkBox was a fun collection for Murray and I. We are at the point now where Murray's "spidey" senses start to tingle when he sees a BarkBox; he knows that he is in for a good time filled with treats and a lot of play. BarkBox is filled with toys and treats that are unmatched. We love the fun themes every month, and sometimes we even get a laugh over some of the silly toys they send out. If you are looking for a box to spoil your pup and also get your money's worth, this is it. If you're someone like me who hates to see old, nasty and worn toys laying around the house, this subscription is an awesome way to keep your pup's toys in rotation and keep him guessing with each month's finds.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $35.00 a month + free shipping
Value Breakdown: Since these products are all made by BarkBox, I was not able to get a retail value for each item. I received a total of six products this month, which averages out to about $5.83 for the $35 a month cost, which is a steal for the quality of each item. You would absolutely pay more for subpar products in a pet shop, making this subscription well worth its cost.
To Wrap Up
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! As of writing, you can choose to start with March's "Madagascar Unleashed" theme or a mystery box.
