NATASHA DENONA Cupid Cheek Duo, 50 g - Listed Value $42 (similar here)
This is such an interesting little duo because the blush is a sheer cream while the highlighter is a pressed powder. And, like most ND formulas, the performance is great, though I feel like this is a very specific sort of product. I tend to use all cream or all powder in a look, and this duo can be weird if you don't apply them in the right way. Which for me means powder first or I find that the powder tends to stick to the blush in a slightly weird way. I do love this for a minimal look, though. Just a few taps of blush to your cheeks and a quick highlight to the inner eyes and cupids bow and its a very healthy skin look.
Herbivore Bakuchiol Retinol Alternative Smoothing Serum, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $54
Bakuchiol is such an interesting ingredient. It comes from the Babchi plant and for a lot of people is a great alternative to retinol. Why would anyone need an alternative? Well, it can be irritating to sensitive skin. So if you want the anti-aging benefits of a retinol but none of the irritation or redness? Try bakuchiol! The other biggie in here is Gluconolactone. It is a polyhydroxy acid (aka a PHA) and it functions much like an AHA in terms of gentle exfoliation. The texture of this formula is a bouncy and gooey gel that absorbs easily and layered between my serums and moisturizer without any pilling.
Murad Skin Smoothing Polish- 3.5 fl oz - Retail Value $39
How pretty is this blue scrub? What a color! I guess this used to be pink in a previous life, but I think the blue is an upgrade for sure. This scrub performs much as I expected. It has gentle scrubbies made of silica that exfoliate gently and without scratching. This is gentle enough for use a few times a week, but I wouldn't use it more frequently. The brightness and smoothness after using it just once is very dramatic, though! Have you ever used the green exfoliating scrub from Kate Somerville? I feel like that one is downright irritating sometimes. This is a gentle alternative!
Mitchell and Peach English Leaf Body Oil - 3.4 fl oz - Retail Value $68
Whenever I see a $68 bottle of body oil I want to roll my eyes, but I did actually love this stuff. It is made in England and the oil is a blend of sunflower and sweet almond with a blend of scents like basil, citrus, lavender and cedar. It smells a lot like you would expect an English garden to smell! And, sure, the price is way too high for a repurchase. But that is the beauty of subscription boxes: trying out things we can't afford.
MyBeautyBrand ByMe Black Liquid Eyeliner - Retail Value $20
Another Boxy, another black eyeliner. Please, send us some color! A plum, an emerald, or even a teal! C'mon! If I used eyeliner regularly, this would be one I reached for. The lines were sharp and once it dried, it went nowhere!
Endota Hydrating Lip Balm, 15 g - Retail Value $25
Any other lip biters out there? This product is for us. It is minty, conditioning, and hydrating. And it actually sticks around for quite a long time as far as balms go. The minty is tingly but not super strong, and ingredients like cocoa butter and calendula keep lips smooth for hours. An added bonus? A nice subtle sheen.
Verdict
When I think of a box with Premium in the title, I expect to see brands like Murad, Natasha Denona, and Herbivore. And that is exactly what I got this month in my BoxyCharm Premium. Finally! This subscription tends to be a little hit or miss on the premium promise but this time I think it delivered. The total value inside was $248 which is a nice haul for a box that costs $39.99. In looking over this curation, the only thing that I really disliked was the black eyeliner and that is mostly because black eyeliner feels like a filler so often in boxes. Other than that, I loved everything!
