Little Passports is a subscription box that helps kids explore the world through fun and educational activities. They offer a range of subscription options and they recently came out with an Animals Wild box for ages 3-5 that explores different animals around the world and their habitats.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
This month's box was all about the Serengeti and it looked like we were making our own stamps. I decided to let my 6-year-old work on this box with me (as opposed to my 4-year-old) because he is animal-obsessed and I knew he would be very excited even if the box is technically for ages 3-5!
What's Inside the Animals Wild Box?
This booklet introduced us to our habitat, the Serengeti, and it provided instructions for our game.
Game Materials
We received some pieces to create our own stamps, an ink pad, a spinner, and a game board.
Pop-up Playset
Each box includes an innovative pop-up playset of our habitat. It also comes with four cardboard animals to assemble to play with, too. The orange strip of paper opened up to give us some assembly instructions.
Here is a closer look at some of the activities on the playset. The whole thing is just so interactive! There are flaps that lift up to reveal information and flaps that fold open with actual activities, too.
The Activities
My son was eager to assemble his animals, so he got to work on those first. We had a zebra, hippo, lion, and elephant. If you swipe through you can see them assembled with our playset.
Then he was ready to explore all of the facts and activities on the playset like the fun spot the difference zebra activity! In the last photo, you can see the clip they provided to hold the playset open for play.
Next, we were ready to assemble the stamps for our game. We had a zebra and a lion print to make. This was easy since the pieces already had adhesive on them for us.
The game was fairly simple; we opened up our game board, spun a number on the spinner, and then moved that number of spaces by stamping our way across the board. The winner was whoever reached the end first. This is perfect for a game with a 3-5-year-old!
The board actually wiped clean easily with a wet paper towel so that we can play over and over again, and they provided some little transparent stickers to place over our stampers for storage. The whole game had minimal pieces and while we will probably just store them in the box our set arrived in!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $27.95 + free shipping
I love that the playset and the game are both reusable items that we can keep, but I did find myself wishing there was one more little keepsake in there; a keychain, an animal figurine, just one more thing to round out the box for us! Since my son was very engaged, though, I would say the value is there for us, personally!
Key Takeaways
I like the high-quality materials and how clever the playset is! My son loved assembling the cardboard animals and playing with them, and we both thought the game was fun, too. While my son is a bit above the intended age group, I think it is definitely age-appropriate for 3-5-year-olds and would be a great way to get some fine motor practice and engage them in learning with some interactive play!
