Everyone knows Sephora is a beauty store where you can find almost anything and everything related to makeup, skincare, body care, hair care, and self-care, but did you know they also frequently release curated limited edition sets? Sephora's curated sets aren't new, and today's review is on the newly released Mini Clean Mascara Lashstash To Go Sampler set. It features five mascara samplers and a voucher to redeem for your choice of full-size mascara.

FYI – this kit is still available while stocks last!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.

First Impressions

This mascara sampler set is packaged in a funky green box with ribbons of purple, peach, and lime across it. The mascaras are packaged neatly inside, and the back of the box has additional information about the mascaras included.

If you choose to redeem it online (I love that online redemption is now offered as an option!), you enter the "certificate promo barcode" in the "promo code" section of the website. The code should start off as "U-", and the dash needs to be included in order for the system to recognize your code.

Don't forget that every Sephora purchase comes with two free samples of your choice! Since this set was more than $25, I also qualified for a free GWP-I chose a mini of the Glow Recipe eye cream.

The Breakdown – What’s Inside This Limited Edition Box From Sephora

ITEM Beauty By Addison Rae Lash Snack Clean Lengthening Mascara in Midnight Mood, 0.10 oz – Estimated Value $6.82

Certificate redeems for the 0.22-ounce mascara that retails for $15

No disrespect intended towards ITEM Beauty, but even if you like this mascara I don’t understand why you would redeem your voucher for it when it is significantly more affordable than the rest of the mascaras in this $28 kit. That being said, I don’t like this mascara. It barely gave my lashes any curl, and it started to clump terribly the second I went in with additional coats. I think if you’re looking for just a smidge if length this may be a good mascara for you, but it was a miss for me.

Here I am wearing it.

caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara, 0.11 oz – Estimated Value $7.13

Certificate redeems for the 0.37-ounce mascara that retails for $24

I actually just got the full-size version of this mascara in my Trendmood Volume 15 box (you can check out the full review of the box along with a photo of me wearing the mascara here). I don’t have a ton of experience with tubing mascaras, but I did enjoy this one- if I didn’t already own it, it would be a strong contender for the mascara I chose to redeem my voucher for. It gives length, volume, and a little bit of curl to my lashes, but I did have to be careful with how I applied it because it has a tendency to get spidery. I do have a small amount of flakiness when I wear this, but it’s not crazy bothersome.

ILIA Fullest Volumizing Mascara in Classic Black, 0.13 oz – Retail Value $13

Certificate redeems for the 0.32-ounce mascara that retails for $28

I really love the Ilia limitless lash mascara so I thought their fullest volumizing mascara would be equally lovely, but it honestly fell a little flat for me. It’s not a terrible mascara, but I just don’t feel like it did anything spectacular- and I like my mascara to bring a little more oomph. I think the most annoying part of this mascara is how easily it smudged on my eyelid when I was applying it, which is a problem I’ve never had when using Ilia’s other mascara.

Here I am wearing it.

Milk Makeup KUSH High Volumizing Mascara in Blackest Black, 0.10 oz – Estimated Value $7.35

Certificate redeems for the 0.34-ounce mascara that retails for $25.

Milk recently released a new mascara, and boy do I wish that had been the one featured instead of Kush- I have never been able to get this mascara to work for me, and I actually kind of hate it. It gives my lashes good volume, length, and curl, and then it smears down my face throughout the day every time I wear it. I received the full-size of this mascara in a box one time and tried it as an optimist, but the full-size mascara actually was actually even worse in performance than the mini. If you can make this mascara work for you, I salute you- but this definitely doesn't work for me (you can see what it looks like here).

Saie Mascara 101 Lengthening and Lifting, 0.11 oz – Estimated Value $8.87

Certificate redeems for the 0.31-ounce mascara that retails for $25

This was my first-ever product from Saie, and I was excited to try them because they’ve been pretty popular on Instagram lately. This isn’t my all-time favorite mascara, but it was pretty solid- it added length and curl to my lashes without clumping or becoming spidery. My biggest complaint is I really had to take some time to apply multiple coats to get the finished look I desired (more time than I have to spend with other mascaras), but the end result is pretty and doesn’t smudge or flake.

Here I am wearing it. I think this will be the mascara I redeem my voucher for!

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $29

Cost Breakdown: This kit costs $29 + free shipping, and I received $43.17 worth of mascara minis and a voucher to redeem for the full-size mascara of my choice that ranges in value from $15-$28

Sephora promised a value of $48 for this set, and the value of the mascara minis alone is only $5 less than the promised value. Then, you can add anywhere from $15-$28 in additional value depending on which mascara you redeem your voucher for.

Key Takeaways

Sephora releases their Lashstash sets about twice a year, and they're usually pretty solid. This time they changed it up a bit by releasing two different mascara sets at the same time, and I thought I would test out the clean mascara Lashstash set first. I’ll be honest- I found it to be a bit lackluster. None of the mascaras really wow-ed me or made me feel like owning the full-size version was a must-have. It was fun trying out new-to-me mascaras (and I always appreciate the Sephora Favorite sets for that), but unless clean beauty is really, really important to you or you really want to try one of the mascaras in this set, I’m not sure if this is the Lashstash set I recommend. Sephora did exceed their promised value for the set, and I do appreciate that- do you think I’m being too harsh?

Other Things You Should Know

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes! This is still available online, and you may also be able to find it at your local Sephora store.

Can the voucher be redeemed online? Yes! Sephora recently changed its voucher program to allow for in-store or online redemption. You can't redeem this at a Sephora inside JCPenney store, Kohl’s store, or Sephora Canada store, so the ability to redeem online is a great option for people who don't have a local Sephora but still want to take advantage of it (and when you do you get to add your two free samples to your order, even if you're not buying anything else).

Is it hard to redeem the voucher? No, but sometimes you have to enter the code a few times when there are letters that could be mistaken for numbers and vice versa. Your voucher has two barcodes at the bottom- you want to use the "certificate promo barcode" number and enter it in the space to enter coupons and make sure you include the dash near the beginning of the code.

Is shipping free? Shipping is free on all orders over $50 and costs $6.50 for orders under $50 (though since the pandemic started you can usually find a free shipping coupon for smaller orders that will stack with other coupon codes).

Ironically my set arrived the same day this review came out. Kind of a bummer none of the mascaras really wowed. However, mascara like most things in life, is really subjective. I personally buy one specifically for my bottom lashes. So these babies are all going on top lol. Hoping at least one of these will impress me…..☺️

Not seeing my reply…so once again…
Absolutely! And I have to agree with you, Jessica, this set was very underwhelming. I prefer big fluffy brushes over the hard, spikey kind because my lashes are thin. The Ilia mascara was ok, but was the biggest pain to remove. If I have to fight my mascara every night to get it off, it’s just not worth it. The Milk mascara was also just ok, but did not give me enough volume (I only tried this on my upper lashes because of your smear warning.) The Addison Rae mascara I didn’t even try because the brush seemed too small and spikey and I just feel too old to be using it lol. The Saie mascara weirdly separated my lashes and made them look sparse. Same with the Caliray tubing mascara. However, as fate would have it, my quest to find a mascara for my top lashes ended up turning into a new discovery for my bottom ones. The Caliray mascara was perfect for my bottom lashes and no raccoon eyes even in the heat! I’m bummed none of these truly paned out, but glad I do currently use a mascara I really like. I enjoy trying out different mascaras and I have found that it really depends on the type, quality, and quantity of lashes in question. I also have no qualms using a completely different mascara for my bottom lashes because the requirements are different down there than up on top (I take my mascara game really serious lol). If I could just add a PSA, it is extremely important to remove mascara each night. I got into the habit of leaving it in and ended up getting a type of eye ulcer in both of my eyes. Thanks Jessica for letting me add my two cents!
