Add to Cart is a reader interest series that breaks down products and launches in beauty and skincare from your wish list. Has something caught your eye and preoccupied your desires? What products are you curious to learn more about? Let us know what's living on your wish list in the comments - each month, we'll select, buy, and review one product to see if it lives up to the hype!

Welcome to another round of Add to Cart! Since it's summertime, the beauty sphere is bursting with all sorts of new products that are perfect for the warm, sunny weather. And what is more summer than a product from Sol de Janeiro? Their Bum Bum cream catapulted this brand to cult-level status and I must admit, I resisted this fragrance at first. Remember back when everyone was wearing Love Spell? Or Gap's Dream? Tommy Girl? All of those scents were SO popular. And even though I actually loved each one at the time, I resisted because I didn't want to smell like anyone else. Well, this gourmand called Cheirosa '62 won me over. When I saw this brand new leave-in conditioner launch, it was an immediate add-to-cart moment.

The Product I Chose: Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Joia Milky Leave-In Conditioner, 7.1 fl oz - $28

My Subscription Addiction paid for this product. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This formula arrives in a plastic yellow bottle with a spray nozzle that can be locked for your next beach vacay. The size was great for the price. Let's dive in:

The Ingredients

Here is a closer look at the ingredient list:

Aqua (Water, Eau), Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Stearyl Alcohol, Coconut Alkanes, Cocoglucosides Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Bertholletia Excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuaçu) Seed Butter, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Astrocaryum Tucumã Seed Butter, Tocopherol, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Lactic Acid, Gardenia Jasminoides Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract, Butylene Glycol, Maltodextrin, Phenoxyethanol, Isohexadecane, Sodium Hydroxide, Limonene, Benzyl Alcohol, Coumarin, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal.

My Takeaway

What Does It Smell Like?

Golden, sexy, and slightly edible. The notes here are vanilla, nutty pistachio, caramel, sexy florals, salt, and almond. If you want to feel sexy, this is a great scent that is guaranteed to turn heads. I did expect this stuff to perfume my hair all day and was disappointed that it actually faded rather quickly. This might have something to do with my hair, though, and I am curious if you tried this and had yummy smelling hair for more than an hour.

What Does It Feel Like?

So, I have thicker hair that has a natural wave and is pretty coarse. I can generally use most products without really worrying about anything seriously weighing down my hair if I keep it away from my roots. This leave-in was thicker than most I have tried and I actually really disliked how slick and heavy it made my hair. Even after I air-dried my hair completely, it just looked kind of greasy and gross. I tried again with less product and just wasn't feeling it until I decided to treat it like a conditioner "concentrate" and added some to water in a different misting bottle. Cutting it with water greatly improved the performance and reduced the weight.

When Should I Apply This?

I applied it to damp hair straight out of the shower, as I do most leave-in products. Because it also has UV protection, it is also a great choice for you if you are in and out of the pool or ocean. And maybe I would like it more for my hair if I had that sort of lifestyle.

Who Is It For?

Fans of Sol de Janeiro who prefer a heavier leave-in conditioner.

Should You Buy Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Joia Milky Leave-In Conditioner?

I will admit that I didn't love this stuff. But I could absolutely see it working well for someone with thicker or more damaged hair, or more texture and curls. It smells absolutely amazing and has a good price point for the size. Especially if you water it down a little!

What's Next?

Full confession: I already picked next month's product. It is from a super hype-y designer brand and it is ridiculously expensive for what it is. Here is a hint: it comes in a tiny compact! Any guesses?

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I got this as an “end of the semester” gift to myself lol. I have really fine, curly hair and it works pretty well for me (and of course the scent is great). I haven’t been using it much because I am finishing up my Christophe Robin leave-in from Allure which my hair loooves.

(I did find that this makes my bathroom floor extremely slippy if I just spray it with abandon lol.)

I love the scents of their products but find their actual performance to be average and not worth the price tag or hype.

For anyone that wants to try it, they have a travel/mini for $10 on the Sol website – I ordered it – although I like it for the scent, I find that Josie Maran Argan oil on damp hair works so much better for softening my hair and no frizz! Another fav of mine is Bumble and Bumble Blow Dry Repair! I do have the body spray in this scent and just use that if I want to smell Cheirosa! 🙂

Would have loved a picture of how your hair looked after using since I have similar hair.

I guess I am glad it is not too strong of a scent for the hair. Sometimes this stuff gives me a headache.
I don’t know the hint of product you provided.
I would love to see the new Ole Henriksen new Firmly Yours Toning Dry Body Oil reviewed.I know you like dry body oils from your reviews. Thanks.

I like that it’s kind of like a concentrate. It’ll stretch longer. But I do not love this fragrance. I tried to love it, everyone loves it. I love their lip balm though

Love this column. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! I generally find the Sol de Janeiro scents too gourmand/sweet, so I will pass.
