First Impressions
First, I apologize for the wait on this review. I have been out of town for the last few weeks due to a family emergency. I was in Tennessee, this box arrived in Pennsylvania, and the whole schedule was more than a little disrupted. I truly appreciate your understanding!
As always, my goodies arrived in the pink IPSY bubble mailer and a drawstring back. For whatever reason, I received a bag from last summer instead of the new design.
Also worth noting: I didn't make choices this month to see what kind of assortment would arrive!
Here is the info card.
Now, on to the items!
Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cleanser, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $44
Maybe my nose is off right now or something, but I swear this smells exactly like sunscreen. Which is weird, but doesn't make me feel one way or the other about it. The texture is a thick cream and it feels really nice on my skin. It doesn't take much to get a nice lather on my face and it leaves a soft and clean feeling behind. Key ingredients here are jojoba oil, avocado oil, lactic acid, and a good amount of antioxidants from botanicals. Wee bit of coconut oil here but its down the ingredient list and since you wash this off of your face instead of just leaving it there I am not super bothered personally! As far as cleansers for dry skin, this is a great choice and probably my top pick from this month's bag.
Treslúce Beauty Lucette Glow Palette - Estimated Value $13 (buy a highlighter palette with 4 shades for $26 here)
This launch is from Becky G, who I can't really remember from my celebrity lexicon stashed deep in my brain, but whenever I get an item from this line I end up really loving it. These two highlighters are buttery and brilliantly glowy! My favorite is the pink-leaning 'Cosmic' which is peachy and also golden. It's kind of got that NARS 'Orgasm' sort of vibe but in a softer more natural way. The second shade 'Upgrade' is a soft champagne that is perfect for highlighting under the brows and down my nose. Both give a great natural glow when applied with a big brush!
Jecca Blac Hydrate Primer, 20 mL- Retail Value $20
I don't use makeup primer but this one feels a lot more like a daily moisturizer that happens to also help your makeup last longer. I can't say I noticed a huge difference in longevity, but I really don't wear much makeup at all. Literally, in the summer it's only SPF and cream blush! Maybe a cream highlighter. But not a lot to keep in place. I feel like it has a slightly odd smell, but nothing that I would describe as offensive. And since it has things inside like aloe, sunflower seed oil, and shea, it does provide a lot of instant skin moisturization. But I can't say I really liked this stuff all that much.
COMPLEX CULTURE All the Angles Brush Duo - Listed Value $48
If there is one thing that COMPLEX CULTURE does really, really well, its brushes. They always feel so nice to hold! The weight is on the heavier end but that makes them feel comfortable to use and the matte rubberized finish on the handles feels high-end and special. The bristles are dense and fluffy, and also vegan. The plastic on the handles is 100% biodegradable too! This duo consists of one smaller powder brush that is great for blush and highlighters. The other is an angled brush designed for easy contouring and concealing.
BEYOU Caffeine Eye Cream, 15 mL - Retail Value $18
My last item is a cute little pink tube of Korean-made eye cream. No real smell here (it's fragrance-free) and a lightweight creamy texture. And for such an affordable eye cream, it really has a lot of goodness inside! The ingredient list boasts niacinamide, panthenol, caffeine, ceramides, and multiple weights of hyaluronic acid. I was pretty impressed with this!
Verdict
This month's IPSY Glam Bag Plus is a little hard to calculate the value of because it had a few IPSY exclusive sizes/mixes. But I do feel like the value was worth the $28 cost of the bag. I mean, the cleanser itself is worth $44 alone! And I really enjoyed everything here except for the primer, but, again, not a primer kind of gal. While this wasn't the sort of curation that really knocked my socks off the usefulness and value was here for May.
