First Impressions
It's the middle of summer and this box seemed like a new and fun concept that revolved around one of my favorite treats; ice cream!
Inside the Bespoke Post "Scoops" Box
Ice Cream Keeper by Asobu in Blue - Retail Value $39.99
The main item in our box this month was this ice cream keeper. They offered it in white or blue and it is made from 5 layers meant to keep your pint of ice cream cold for hours, 4 to be exact! The outer layer is double wall vacuum insulated with stainless steel and copper with a removable plastic freezer gel layer with its own separate gel-filled lid. The lid also has a slot with two tiny ice cream spoons to have your ice cream while on the go. It's a very sturdy design, but the lid is pretty difficult for me to work with. Hopefully over time that will loosen up, but since the price to pay might be melted ice cream, I can look past that!
It fits all standard-sized ice cream pints and we put it to the test while we ran some errands on what was a very hot and sunny day. We put the inner freezer gel layer in the freezer to chill overnight so it would be ready to insert. The pint fit snugly inside of that and then inside of the outer steel layer. Then I screwed on both lids. You can see our ice cream was a bit soupy, but it was really just the top layer! We were running errands for about 4 hours give or take a half hour.
Tilt-Up Ice Cream Scoop by Tovolo - Retail Value $12 (found here for $11.39)
We also received this handy ice cream scoop which is quite hefty and works well. The innovative design features two little feet underneath so your ice cream-covered scoop doesn't get all over the table in between servings!
Chocolate Ice Cream Mix by True Scoops in Chocolate - Retail Value $12.95
What good would an ice cream scoop be without some homemade ice cream to go with it? I was certainly intrigued by this idea seeing as we don't actually have an ice cream maker. Subscribers could have chosen vanilla or chocolate and I was impressed with the minimal ingredients listed. One bag makes 1 quart of ice cream.
The steps were simple; combine it with some half and half then pour it into ice cube trays and let freeze. Then I added a bit more half and half and blended it until it was smooth enough to pour into the outer layer of our new container. Then it went into the freezer for a minimum of 3 hours.
It was still a bit soft after the three hours, but the next day it had firmed up to a nice hard consistency. It was very rich and chocolatey and the whole family was a fan!
Hot Fudge Sauce Mix by True Scoops - Retail Value $6.95
The last item could have gone very well with our chocolate ice cream if I had chosen the butterscotch option, but being a chocolate girl I had to know how their fudge sauce was! Again, this had minimal ingredients which I was happy about.
This was just as easy to mix up; more half and half and then it got heated on the stove. This made about 1 cup of shiny chocolatey fudge sauce.
The hot fudge was another hit! It was very tasty, but I do like my hot fudge a bit thicker so I probably wouldn't purchase this again. I am still very interested in trying the butterscotch though!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $56.89
Value Breakdown: We received an ice cream container, scoop, ice cream mix, and hot fudge mix with a retail value of about $71.89 so I think the value is there!
Key Takeaways
We got to try some fun and innovative things this month and we saved a little bit by purchasing them here. I think that's a winning combination! And the fact that I had to test out so much ice cream certainly didn't hurt!
