First Impressions
Reaction time games sounded like a fun theme! Anytime there is a game involved, it's usually a good sign!
What's Inside This Box
This booklet highlights our theme for the month and it includes colorful, detailed illustrations to go along with our easy-to-follow instructions. On the back of the booklet, they include their social media links and a sticker for this month’s project. It looks like we have a few different games to play!
This is the little sticker chart we received in our first Kiwi Crate along with our welcome note that we can add our sticker to.
Our Kiwi Explore! magazine is always a nice bonus complete with a comic and some extra activities that really enhance our lessons each month! It's educational and full of fun and useful activities for us to try.
This month we received lots of wooden and foam pieces, some large pom poms, and some adhesive foam stickers.
We also received a felt game board, a plastic tube, some balls, ribbon, and a green pump.
Activity 1: Ball Drop Game
The first step for our ball drop game was assembling the game board. My daughter added the foam pieces and then attached the wooden legs at the bottom by sliding them into the slots.
Then she added the little basket to catch the balls in and the piece that would allow the balls to drop down the game board. The last step was just adding another piece to the legs to keep them steady.
She added all of the little wooden pegs and our game was ready to go!
The balls get released from the little square at the top and then you have to slide the basket along the bottom to try and catch them, but the little pegs turn it into a "Plinko" type game and it makes it hard to figure out where each ball will end up!
Here you can see the board in action!
This was a fun game to play and test out our reaction times. Even my husband had to get in on the action!
Activity 2: Pom-Pom Catch Game
This next game was even easier to assemble, but maybe a little more time-consuming! My daughter added little foam sticky squares to the felt piece on the marked spots, then she folded up the edges and stuck them together. Then ribbon got woven into the slits on the basket, one ribbon at the top, and one at the bottom to give it a fun woven look.
Then the green pump got attached to the orange tube and the plastic tube sat over that. The large pom poms went inside of that so then when you pressed on the green pump the air sent the pom pom flying. The basket was to catch them.
I got some good action shots of her testing it out on the table! Then we took it into the other room so that one person could step on the pump while the other person attempted to catch the pom poms. Once her brothers saw, they had to join in the fun so soon we were testing out multiple pom poms and we added some other baskets for catching them so that everyone could play together!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $19.95
We had a lot of fun with both of these games! I love that there was one that was more of an individual game, but then there was also a game that we could let everyone play altogether. Two new games, some hands-on building, and some educating materials to go along with it made this box a great value for us!
Key Takeaways
This was the perfect box for a little light learning over the summer that resulted in some silly family fun! Everything was well organized and the directions were easy enough for my 7-year-old to complete both projects pretty much independently which is always nice!
