First Impressions
We love a good sensory book, and we are familiar with Max and Marla, so we were all excited for this month's selections!
Inside the Lillypost June 2022 Box
Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month's theme is ice cream, which I can definitely get on board with!
Touch & Learn: Ocean by Becky Davies - Listed Value $7.99
This little ocean book is fun and pretty unique! The edges of each page are lined with felt and there are these great little cutouts throughout the book where you are supposed to trace the felt with your finger in different directions. For example, you make three different strokes to show the air spray from the whale's blowhole. There are also some things to spot on each page which is another great way to engage little readers. The pages are bright and colorful so while my 5-month-old already likes to look at it now, I know it will be a great one to read with him when he is older, too!
Bloop by Tara Lazar - Listed Value $17.99
This book is bright and fun with our main character being an alien dog named Bloop, who has come to take over planet Earth. He explores the planet and ends up finding something he never expected in the form of a family who cares for him. This story has just the right amount of silly situations to get the kiddos giggling and it finishes with a nice heartwarming touch! Very cute!
Max and Marla Are Flying Together by Alexandra Boiger - Listed Value $17.99 (on sale for $13.99)
This is our second Max and Marla book, the first one taking place in winter with lots of blues and grays in the illustrations. I loved that this one was also somewhat monochromatic to match the season of the story, this time with red hues for fall. In this tale, they're once again attempting something new, but this time, it's flying a kite high up in the sky and teaching Marla to fly alongside it. I love how these friends work together to try and attempt something challenging and new! They always display encouragement and perseverance, and the illustrations are beautiful to look at!
