BomiBox "Turning A New Leaf" Box Review

Mary & May Lemon Niacinamide Glow Wash-off Pack - Retail Value $19.99

Masking is my favorite skincare step, so I always feel genuine joy whenever a subscription box send a full-size mask. This mask has a kaolin and bentonite clay base and is made with vitamin C, lemon peel power, and niacinamide. I knew this was going to be potent for my cheeks (which is where most of my rosacea acts up), so when I tried this out I applied it my T-Zone. The texture was creamy, and this was a tad hard to wash away- but it didn't leave my skin feeling dry or tight, which honestly surprised me.

Farmstay Real Avocado Nutrition Oil Serum, 3.3 oz - Retail Value $12.10

I love avocados. I love to eat avocados and its various derivatives, I love cute avocado cartoons and memes about avocados, and I love skincare products made with avocados. Needless to say, there was a predisposition to liking this oil-serum. The formula on this is 10% avocado oil, and it's paired with ingredients like green tea extract, Centella Asiatica, honeysuckle, and licorice root. My skin loved this stuff, and I only need a few drops to cover my entire face.

Mary & May Niacinamide + Chaenomeles Sinensis Serum, 1 oz - Retail Value $16

Ninety-five percent of this formula is either niacinamide or Chinese quince extract. That extract is a natural source of vitamin C, and it works with the niacinamide to brighten dull complexions and leave your skin looking bright and even. I found this serum to be lightweight, but it was a tad on the sticky side. Whenever I have a sticky serum, though, I'm not typically bothered because that's easily resolved when I apply my moisturizer on top.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, 15 mL - Retail Value $2.99

This is a very popular product from Laneige, and one of the products that I think helped bring K-beauty into more people's lives thanks to how Sephora made it easily accessible. I'll be honest and say it's not my favorite sleeping mask, but that's just because I need something with a little more moisture. This is hydrating, but it's super lightweight- those who have oily skin or don't want to apply a heavy cream at nights during these hot summers are going to be a fan.

G9 Grapefruit Vita Peeling Gel, 20 mL - Estimated Value $1.29 (Buy the 150 mL version for $9.69)

This peeling gel is made with grapefruit extract and chemical exfoliants to help you gently roll your way to brighter skin. I'm not personally a fan of peeling gels, and my sensitive skin gets mad at me when I pair exfoliating ingredients with citrus extracts. I passed this sample along to a friend to try, and they loved how massaging the gel into her skin caused little balls to form and left her with skin that felt softer.

SOMEBYMI Real Glutathione Brightening Care Mask and SOMEBYMI Real Hyaluron Care Mask - Retail Value $1.20 each

I've tried these SOMEBYMI masks before- they're nice, but they're pretty basic. You can't really tell a difference between the two though the Glutathione is for brightening and the Hyaluron is for hydrating, as both were hydrating to my skin. I use sheet masks more for their self-care purpose than for any skincare miracle, and these worked well for that.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $44.99

Value Breakdown:

  • Mary & May Mask: $19.99
  • Farmstay: $12.10
  • Mary & May Serum: $16
  • Laneige: $2.99
  • G9: $1.29
  • SOMEBYMI Masks: $2.20 ($1.20 each)

Everything in the box adds up to $54.57, which is on the low end in terms of values I've come to expect for this $44.99 box.

Key Takeaways

I really like my BomiBox subscription, but this box wasn't a great fit for me. I love the idea of centering a box around a theme, but including all of these brightening skincare products at once was actually a recipe for problems if I was using them all at the same time for my skin. The Farmstay oil was the winner of the box for me, followed by the Mary & May Mask. I calculated a value of $54.57 this month, which is lower than what I have come to expect from this box. However, remember that you need to take these prices with a grain of salt since almost all of them can only be purchased overseas and that makes finding consistent pricing for them difficult. If you're looking for a monthly beauty box comprised exclusively of K-Beauty products, BomiBox is one of the best out there.
