First Impressions

Everything arrived in our regular black box with a card detailing the items included.

Now, on to the items!

OFRA Cosmetics Signature Palette in 'Symphony" - Retail Value $32

Let's start off with this pretty mauve-themed eyeshadow palette! It includes 5 shades that come together for a very pretty color story. The performance was a little hit-and-miss. The three shimmer shades were drop-dead gorgeous. The first one is especially magical. It is a wine with an iridescent greenish-gold finish. The middle is bright champagne that also doubles as a gorgeous highlighter. The issues I had with this palette were the mattes. They were dry and lacked the pigment I expect from this brand. Because OFRA packaging is magnetic though, I am likely going to pop those out and just add in other shades from my collection with better performance.

Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream, 15 mL - Retail Value $90

I absolutely loved this eye cream. It has so many ingredients that I want to see in a formula designed to calm and nourish the skin around my eyes. Firstly, it has cica. This is my favorite ingredient for calming redness and soothing stressed and sensitive skin. It also has other calming ingredients like calendula, lavender, and chamomile. These also give it a beautiful scent! Also inside are moisturizers (sunflower seed oil, aloe, jojoba, and more) as well as lots of antioxidants (green tea, vitamin E). It is a lovely formula that I keep beside my bedside now!

Meloway Mascara Your Way, 8 mL - Retail Value $23

I am not a huge mascara enthusiast. I generally bounce between Ilia and Saie formulas that are designed to define and darken, rather than volumize. This one I found a little messy and a little gimmicky. The tube opening isn't designed well enough to remove product from the brush when you pull it out and there is a messy globby amount on the bristles. I found it completely overwhelming to apply. The feature of the brush design is that you can bend it into angles, though I found this to only contribute to the mess I made.

Playa Monoi Milk Leave-in Conditioner- 5 fl oz - Retail Value $24

I absolutely adore this brand. All of the products work so well, are effortless to use, and smell incredible. This leave-in creates that perfect beachy look and suits my minimal hair routine beautifully. I tend to shower at night and sleep on my damp hair and I use leave-ins after every shower. Simply spritz some of this perfumed magic onto your strands, scrunch your waves, and go to bed. In the morning I like to use a little hair oil if I am frizzy, then I am good to go with dreamy waves. This is the only brand I regularly cheat on OUAI with.

Complex Culture Good Glow Blush Duo in "Blissed Out & Flustered" - Retail Value $30

Complex Culture is an Ipsy Labs house brand and I know that can be a turn-off to some, but I always like their products. The packaging is chic and the performance is generally very good. This blush duo is silky smooth and is very pigmented. Using each shade solo is lovely, but my favorite is grabbing a big fluffy brush and mixing both, then dusting my cheeks for a natural look.

Popmask Sleepover Self-Warming Steam Mask Set - Retail Value $20

My last item was a set of 5 self-warming eye masks. You simply open the packet and they begin to heat up on their own. These are nice for masking because they are disposable and you can just wear them on top of your chosen face mask for an extra layer of zen.

Verdict

This was a pretty nice BoxyCharm Premium box. It has a nice total value of $219 and did actually have a premium-level brand or two. My favorites were the eye cream, the conditioner, the blush, and the palette. The only real dud was the mascara. I found this box very enjoyable otherwise!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

It’s not the quality of Complex Culture that we’re complaining about. It’s the fact that ipsy shoves it in our faces constantly, along with the low-quality Refreshments brand. It was in every one of my three choice categories for GBP this morning. Nice try, ipsy. Now that they purchased Boxy, they eliminated competition and found another outlet for shoving their house brands on people.

Every time ipsy raises prices they pretend that the reason is the desire to give us more and better brands. Right. One MSA poster commented recently that one of her August ipsy products was labeled “exclusively for Boxycharm.” I believe it.
