First Impressions
I knew my daughter would get a kick out of the polarized glasses, so this box looked like fun!
What's Inside This Box
This booklet highlights our theme for the month and it includes colorful, detailed illustrations to go along with our easy-to-follow instructions. On the back of the booklet, they include their social media links and a sticker for this month’s project. It looks like we have two separate components to our set this month!
This is the little sticker chart we received in our first Kiwi Crate along with our welcome note that we can add our sticker to.
Our Kiwi Explore! magazine is always a nice bonus complete with a comic and some extra activities that really enhance our lessons each month! It's educational and full of fun and useful activities for us to try.
For our first project, we received some sticky dots, googly eyes, clear fish, and materials to make a frame out of cardboard and plastic pegs. There were also two different filter shapes and some suction cups.
For our second project, we received some rubber bands, plastic tiles, a template, a wooden frame, and some polarized glasses.
Activity 1: Fish Suncatcher
The fish suncatcher was simple to make. My daughter crumpled up the clear fish and then unfolded them and she placed them onto the square filter using the sticky dots. Then she added some cute googly eyes.
Next, she assembled the frame and placed the fish filter inside of it with the round filter over top of it. She added some suction cups so that it would stick to a window and we were ready to test it out.
It stuck to the window and we could see the way the light looked on the wrinkles of the fish.
To change the light we just had to turn the circular filter. So simple and very cool!
Activity 2: Secret Message Mosaic
For our mosaic, first my daughter checked out the little tiles using the glasses.
Then she assembled the frame and planned out her template. She chose a smiley face. Next she got to work placing her tiles.
You can see what it looked like without the glasses and then with! Pretty cool!
The kids thought it was fun and my daughter was eager to show her brothers!
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $19.95
This was a fun way to explore polarized light and I like that we got two separate activities out of it! My daughter enjoyed it, too so I think it was worth it.
Key Takeaways
Kiwi Crate is always so much fun and I love that the activities are simple, organized, and of course, educational! They are engaging and allow my daughter to show some independence, too!
