You probably know by now that KiwiCo has a subscription line for just about every age, but did you know they also offer fun one-time boxes in their shop? They have interactive toys, educational kits that are similar to their monthly boxes, and even some fun holiday-themed boxes. As a mom, I am always intrigued by these boxes, but before I buy, I like to know exactly what I'm getting. This series will provide you with a review of some of these unique one-time boxes and hopefully help you make an informed decision about your own purchases. If there's a box you'd like to see reviewed from their shop, drop a line in the comments and we'll see what we can do!

This is a review of KiwiCo's Magnetic Light-Up Pendulum Tinker Crate.
First Impressions
This sounded like an interesting project!
What's Inside this Crate?
Our Tinker Zine is full of educational information related to our project. This one was filled with facts about magnetism and some fun activities to go along with it!
The directions for our project come on a separate sheet with illustrated steps broken into different sections. They always include helpful troubleshooting information as well, and this one provided three different game ideas for our pendulum.
We received a mix of wooden parts, stickers, plastic screws, and hook and loop fasteners along with a battery pack and some wires. There were also three different sheets with game cards.
Part A: Assemble the Base
First, my son assembled the base by adding some stickers, magnets, and foam feet.
Then he added the clear cover.
Part B: Add the Arm
The next step was to wire it up, build the arm, and then add the base to the bottom of the arm with the wires connected.
Part C: String the Pendulum
We attached the battery pack to the side using the Velcro stickers, and then strung up the pendulum by attaching the alligator clip to the top of the conductive string.
Part D: Adjust the Pendulum
The final step was to add some of the little game cards to our base and then test it out!
We tested it out with the "Quirky Questions" cards. We gave the pendulum a push and each section would light up as the pendulum swung over to it. Wherever it stopped was our answer! This was pretty fun, but they were very eager to test out the "Nifty Numbers" game.
We got some art supplies and then used the pendulum and the number cards to help us draw a monster. We chose a body part and swung the pendulum and whichever number it landed on was how many body parts our monster had. I think we ended up with 2 heads, 6 arms, 6 eyes, and 3 noses, along with some other fun features. They loved it!

This was a really fun box and I love how much the games sparked their creativity. I think this box was a fair value for the educational and fun experience we had!
