Little Passports is a subscription box that helps kids explore the world through fun and educational activities. They offer a range of subscription options, and they recently came out with an Animals Wild box for ages 3-5 that explores different animals around the world and their habitats.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
Our box theme this month was "Wander the Woods!" and my 4-year-old was excited to check it out!
What's Inside This "Animals Wild" Box?
This booklet introduced us to our habitat and provided instructions for our game.
Game Materials
It looks like we are building a beaver lodge!
Pop-up Playset
Each box includes an innovative pop-up playset of our habitat. It comes with a cardboard clip to hold it open along with four cardboard animals to assemble for play. The green strip of paper opened up to give us some assembly instructions. This month's board is divided into different seasons, which I thought was really cool!
There are lots of flaps to open with activities and fun facts which turn it into an even more interactive play set!
The Activities
My older son decided to help my younger son with his box this month. First, they got to work building all of the animals. We had a moose, beaver, wolf, and a mama bear and her cub.
They used their moose to complete one of the mazes from their playset flaps.
Next, we started working on our game. I read them the story from our instructions and they both thought it was funny that it was about Benny Beaver and Buddy Beaver since my son's name is also Benny. A great start to the game! Then it was time to assemble. First, the boys used the sticks we received to poke out all of the excess cardboard from the holes then we assembled the center of our beaver dam.
Here is a look at our finished dam with a little slide in the center for when a beaver falls.
Then we had to add our sticks by poking them through the holes and making sure each one reached the other side. Lastly, our six beavers got dropped into the dam one at a time. There were three for each team.
Playing the game was simply a matter of taking turns carefully removing sticks one by one. When a beaver fell out you placed it in front of you and whoever had the last beaver still in the dam was the winner. This was a fun and pretty exciting "Kerplunk"-style game to play and I like that they also provided some instructions for how to play a solo game if you wanted.
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $27.95 + free shipping
We received a play set with animals and activities along with a game that I know we will enjoy playing again and again. The excitement is there and so is the educational aspect but I think I'd like to see just one more thing to really make this feel like a great value!
