First Impressions
Everything came inside a white Macy's branded box, and when you open the box you find everything has been neatly packaged together with pink tissue paper.
You'll also find a helpful monthly booklet. The booklet goes over each product in detail, and they even sent along with a coupon for your next Macy's beauty purchase.
The Products
Dior Forever Skin Glow Hydrating Foundation Sample
While this was listed as one of the official items in this month's box, I'm not assigning a value to a card with single-use blister samples of foundation on it. I've heard amazing things about the Dior Forever Skin foundation line, but none of these shades matched up well with my coloring.
Kabuki Brush
This box typically comes with an unbranded item- in the past I've received nail wraps and a cup. This Kabuki brush fits the theme of a beauty box a little better than some items sent in the past, and while it's not the most impressive brush I've ever used, it can get the job done and didn't feel scratchy on my cheek.
Bodyography Eye Pencil in Bali Bronze - Retail Value $11
I recently treated myself to one of Bodyography's beautiful pressed pigment eyeshadows, so I felt a little impressed that Macy's sent us a full-size eyeliner from the brand. The shade "Bali Bronze" is more brown and doesn't have the shimmer that one would expect from a shade called bronze (or maybe it's just me), but it's still a really pretty shade. And! It's not black! The formula is made with coconut oil, so it's no wonder this pencil can really glide across my eyelid without tugging or pulling. I'm a fan.
Chella La Vie Neutral Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $20
This is a really pretty eyeshadow quad- it's small and would be ideal for travel, and the shimmery shades are super pigmented while the mattes are buttery smooth. I really like the colors together and the overall performance, but I can't shake the feeling that this exact palette came in an Allure Beauty Box or Ipsy Glam Bag years ago, and I just can't bring myself to be excited about it for that reason. If this was your first introduction to this eyeshadow quad, I think you'll be happy- it pairs beautifully with the Bodyography eyeliner and Lancome mascara.
Here is the eyeshadow quad swatched below the eyeliner.
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Eau De Parfum, 1.5 mL - Estimated Value $1.74 (buy the 75 mL version for $87)
You can always count on your Macy's Beauty Box subscription to bring the perfume samples- the first this month is a more traditionally masculine scent with notes of coconut wood, santal wood, tonka bean, and a hint of bergamot. This is an intense cologne- people will smell it on you as you walk into a room. I liked the deep woodsiness of this cologne, but I think it will take a confident personality to wear it.
Jean Paul Gaultier La Belle Eau De Parfum, 1.5 mL - Estimated Value $3.50 (buy the 1 oz version for $70)
La Belle is an amber fragrance paired with notes of citrus, pear, bergamot, and vanilla. It's a sensual perfume- I usually go for perfumes that are a little more fresh, and definitely would need to be feeling confident if I were going to be wearing this. Some people will love this, some will absolutely not want to wear it.
Lancome Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara, 0.06 oz - Estimated Value $4.91 (buy the 0.33 oz version for $27)
I've used this mascara before and I'm a fan- I actually was wearing the waterproof version of this when my fiancé proposed to me (and it held up really well to the ugly crying!). I'm a little resentful that the packaging on this isn't as pretty as Lancome's packaging for their other mascaras (maybe that's just me), but this mascara absolutely brings the volume. If I apply too many coats too quickly sometimes I have to deal with a little clumping, but overall this is one of the mascaras I would happily use on a daily basis.
Origins GinZing Into The Glow Brightening Serum, 5 mL - Estimated Value $7.67 (buy the 30 mL version for $46)
Origins is one of the first "grown up" brands that I used when I was getting into skincare, and I'm always happy to see their products featured in boxes. This serum is infused with vitamin C and has hyaluronic acid, orange peel oil, and caffeine. I wouldn't call it a safe pick for those who have sensitive skin, but it's definitely going to go to work to make your skin appear more radiant.
The Verdict
I thought this was a fun box from Macy’s Beauty Box. While the single-use foundation sample didn't impress me, I do like that we got everything you need for a cohesive eye look in eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara- especially since all of those products performed really well for me. I couldn't get a value for everything in the box, but the values I did calculate adds up to $48.82. Overall, I think this was a decent box for the $15 price tag, and I appreciate that Macy's continues to bring its best effort each month considering it seems to be the only $15 box left (the rest seem to have raised their prices or left altogether).
