It's officially fall–that means it's time to start thinking about Halloween and (eek) Christmas, too! So, I have to admit when I started reviewing for Rocksbox I was totally underwhelmed. It took me a few rounds to figure out how navigate the site, pick the items, add them to my wishlist, and then beat the clock before the stylist sent me something I didn't really like. Well, I am happy to announce that I'm now a big fan and I'm an even bigger fan of some of the pieces that will be available very soon (like Lele Sadoughi).
This month I chose dressier pieces to wrap up the summer, and there's one item I decided to keep! And just as an FYI, they do sterilize each piece before they send it out. If they didn't, that would be soooo gross!
Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.
This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.
Let's check out this month's delivery!
What I Received
Slate Flynn Necklace - Retail Value $75, Member Price $63
About this item: This shiny, gold-tone necklace by Slate is dressy yet understated. Crafted in 14k gold-plated brass, the Flynn necklace features a mixture of hollow, large and small oval links. It's lightweight, 16-inches long and features a 3-inch extender.
Condition: Excellent.
Review: Despite looking like a necklace that I already own, I got a lot of wear out of this one too and often found myself switching between one or the other on a daily basis. I guess I'm a creature of habit after all. While I really enjoyed wearing this necklace, I had a difficult time keeping it straight. It kept flipping around and felt a little flimsy, so I sent it back.
Melinda Maria So Fabulous Crystal Earrings - Retail Price $68, Member Price $66
About this item: The handcrafted So Fabulous earrings are designed in rounded 18k gold plated sterling silver with simulated diamonds. They arrived with really interesting backings I've never seen before, and the packaging was quite fun too! These earrings are pretty lightweight, they're about an inch wide and they remind me of a dazzling baby snake (the inspo might've been Bulgari).
Condition: Excellent.
Review: Confession time: I really want diamond hoop earrings, but I can't afford anything like that right now, so I rented a pair that resembled something I saved on The Real Real. At first, I loved them and considered making a purchase, but then I outgrew them. That's what's great about rentals... you try before you buy! They are lightweight and a statement piece, but after a few wears I thought they started to look a little cheaper than what I was hoping to buy.
Luv AJ The Slash Chain Stud Dangles - Retail Value $60, Member Price $57
About this item: Luv AJ's Slash Chain Studs are edgy yet chic. Rendered in 14k gold-plated brass, these structural chain-link dangles measure at about 2.5 inches in length, feature a post-back closure, and they're on the heavier side.
Condition: Excellent.
Review: They're a bit heavy, but I bought them anyway!
The Verdict
While I thought I would love the round crystal studs, I ended up wearing them the least and maybe that's because I haven't really gone anywhere dressy recently. The necklace is really pretty, but too similar to another one I own, and the chain-link earrings are now mine! They were $57 on RB and with the $21 Shine Credit and the $5 Forever Credit, they only cost me $31! My purchase also bumped me up into the Rose Gold Level of the Rockstar Rewards program.
Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $186. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount and the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month, which goes towards your purchases), that price drops to $140.
