Welcome to another round of Add to Cart! This month we will be revisiting an older product that has just received three new fall-perfect shades. Glossier's Generation G is a product so many of my friends swear by. It gives that perfect matte look without ever feeling completely dry and it looks blotted as soon as you apply it, making it an ideal lip formula for anyone wanting an effortless and super chic lip look. Glossier just released THREE new shades: Punch, Fuzz, and Malt. These colors looked like the ideal addition to my fall rotation, so I grabbed up two of them.
The Product I Chose: Glossier Generation G Lipstick in "Punch" and "Fuzz" - $18 each
My Subscription Addiction paid for this product. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
The Shades
The three new shades are described by Glossier as follows:
- Punch: a bright rosy red.
- Fuzz: a soft, rosy taupe.
- Malt: a rich, cinnamon brown.
In looking at the shades, I knew Malt was going to be a miss. I don't wear browns well at all! But Punch caught my eye immediately because the bright red (I say it is more of a pink, but we will get into that later) is a shade that would look as gorgeous with a party look as it would with a messy bun and black turtleneck. I love a statement shade! And Fuzz looked like the perfect demure daily color that you can just throw on and go about your day. Here is what they looked like on:
Punch is delightfully bright but still slightly sheer. Fuzz is exactly as I expected, which was a good thing. Both shades were flattering and are great additions to the Generation G color palette.
The Performance
Here is where I think I might lose you. This stuff just didn't last all that long on my lips. If you don't mind reapplying every few hours, it's not a big deal. But if you are someone who wants to set it and forget it, well, forget Generation G. Also, the buildable, sheer formula gives you control over the opacity of your application, but it is never truly opaque. I have the bad habit of biting at my lips when I am bored or anxious and you can actually see the color settling darker into those spots of my smile in my selfies above. I really liked these formulas though, and I am going to just take that as a sign that I need to stop gnawing at myself.
My Takeaway
I have slightly mixed feelings about this Add to Cart. I really want to love anything Glossier, and I generally do. But I think this specific formula can be super polarizing. And while I love the effortlessly blotted vibes of Generation G, they really don't last all that long on my lips. The affordable price absolutely makes it tempting and the new colors are gorgeous. But this isn't going to be for everyone.
Should You Buy Glossier Generation G Lipstick?
This is a great lippy for you if you don't mind reapplying and you love an effortless lipstick that looks like it was made for you as soon as you apply it. If you aren't someone who keeps your lipstick close by or if you need an opaque color, this is a pass.
