First Impressions
This month is a little special because it is a total brand takeover from tarte!
Now, on to the items!
tarte Sunrise Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette - Listed Value $30
This palette is a Boxycharm exclusive color story and it is certainly one of those curations that will be a solid choice for day-to-day wear for most anyone. It is filled with natural shades from cream to brick to brown, and they are formulated with tarte's signature Amazonian clay base which makes them smooth and longer lasting than other options available. I found that the formulas were a little dry, but the pigment levels were pretty good! It isn't exactly a groundbreaking palette, but it is one that I will probably reach for over and over.
tarrte Double Take Awake Micro Liquid Liner & Brightener - Retail Value $25
This double-ended liner-highlighter duo is half-liquid liner and half-precision highlighter. The liquid liner is probably pretty familiar to most beauty lovers, as tarte has been known for this long-lasting formula for years now. Since a black liner is hardly something I get super excited about, I appreciate that it is paired with a lovely cream shade that is so pretty for lining the lower lash line or accenting the inner eye. It really makes my eyes pop and it a great trick for looking more awake in the morning.
tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Balm in "Orchid", 2 g - Retail Value $21
Ok, I kind of loved this stuff. First, the color is a perfect pinky-mauve that is super flattering. Second, the formula is like a balm+lipstick hybrid with swoon-worthy color payoff and moisture. I didn't love the packaging, mostly because it made me feel like I was missing something until I figured it out. If you are also confused, just keep clicking the bottom button until the product moves up. It takes a lot longer than I thought it would. I was super impressed with the color and shine of this balm.
tarte SEA drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer, 50 mL - 145 mL - Retail Value $39
I was a little confused as to what this product actually was at first, since the packaging here differs from the tub you would find if you snagged it at Sephora. And, actually, the ingredient list is different too. I always find this a little confusing. Was there a reformulation? Is this the newer or the older formula? I don't love it when things like this get confusing. Anyway, this version of this formula has a few differences from the one online now. Namely, this one seems to be missing things like Phospholipids and algae extract that the other version has. Other than that they are mostly similar, and both contain hyaluronic acid, glycerine, and squalane. It isn't my favorite moisturizer by any means, but if you have oilier or combo skin, I would give this a shot.
tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara, 7 mL - Retail Value $24
This tube takes me back! I remember my very fancy cousin having this very mascara in her makeup bag back when I was a lot younger. I had never seen a tube of mascara outfitted in its own faux-snake little cover. This formula has stood the test of time for a reason. It consistently creates volume and length. The downside is that I always found it to get flaky and clumpy after a few months and much quicker than some of my other faves. While I love this formula, I recommend buying the mini size. It is going to stay fresher until you need to replace it.
tarte SEA Breezy Cream Blush in 'Pink Sky', 5 g - Retail Value $27
My last item is probably my favorite in the whole box. I love, love, love cream blush formulas and this one is so pretty in its light blue oval compact! The color itself is much more natural than a first glance would suggest. It looks quite bright until applied, and then it turns into this lovely sheer flush of pink. It is also a very buildable formula that makes it versatile for many skin tones. I also liked this on my lips! Is this going to be my top cream blush pick, ever? No. But it is solid and I really like it.
Verdict
This month's BoxyCharm Premium was a rare brand takeover. And I think fans of tarte will absolutely love it. I also think there might be a level of disappointment because I know many subscription box lovers also partake in the build-your-own kits from tarte, meaning this might feel a little bit like a brand overload for some. Personally, I was pretty satisfied. I have always liked tarte but it is one of those brands I never catch myself actually buying when I am out at Sephora or Ulta. This was a good overview of their most popular products, and it reminded me of the aspects I do love about tarte. The only real downer was the cream. I don't love when the formulas online don't line up with what arrives in my hands.
