First Impressions

Open Shot of Envelope for Ipsy Glam Bag October 2022

Everything comes packaged snugly in the signature pink Ipsy bubble mailer.

Included is a product card that features a list of the products and any beauty tips.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month’s theme is ‘Haul-oween’ (how cute), and the makeup bag that comes along is absolutely ADORABLE! The bag is a solid black with a spider web design printed into the material. I especially love the zipper hardware (a cute little spider), and the surrounding fabric is a nice purple shade that provides a fun pop of color; perfect for the spooky season.

Now, on to the items!

PURLISSE BEAUTY Illuminating BB Cream SPF 30 in Medium, 7 ml - Estimated Retail Value $6.48

This BB cream from Purlisse Beauty is really nice… If you’re a fan of BB cream, that is. While I would love to use a product like this, BB creams aren’t usually made with oily skin in mind, and I often have to use foundation instead (or go bare-faced besides eyebrows and mascara if it’s a more casual day for me). This BB cream has a very lightweight, airy texture to it, which feels great when you apply it to your face. Unfortunately, though, this product slides right off my skin in record time. With a powerhouse list of ingredients including goji and hawthorn berries for improving skin texture and jasmine for detoxifying, this BB cream gives some light coverage with the added benefit of SPF. The color is too light for my skin tone either way, so it just makes my face look like a glowing lightbulb, lol. But for someone with a lighter skin tone and less oily skin, you might have success when it comes to using this cream for covering dark spots, redness, and other uneven texture or discoloration.

CHELLA Manifest Bronze Eyeshadow Palette, 4 g - Retail Value $20.00

I’ve had the chance to try out this travel size eyeshadow palette from Chella in the past, and I really enjoyed it. I especially appreciate how compact the palette is while still having everything you could possibly need to create a neutral eye look. This quad has fabulous shades, including one matte (Purpose) and three shimmers (Charisma, Radiant, and Intention), all of which work beautifully with my skin tone. The shimmers are incredibly creamy and pigmented. They apply smoothly to my eyelids and are both buildable and blendable with little fallout. I especially love the touch of gold in Radiant combined with the dark chocolate hue of Intention. The matte shade, however, is not quite as creamy or pigmented but it’s definitely buildable and serves as a great base in my experience. This convenient all-in-one eyeshadow palette has found a home in my everyday makeup routine, and I’m always sure to grab it when I’m on-the-go.

SHADES BY SHAN Lipstick in San Francisco, 3 g - Retail Value $18.00

I’m more of a lip gloss type of girl as opposed to lipstick. But this Shades by Shan lipstick in the shade ‘San Francisco’ is really pretty, I have to admit. The color is perfect for my skin tone and gives me a nice natural look. This might not be the shade I’d choose for a night out, but for everyday use, this lipstick couldn’t be more perfect. The formula is really nice too; it glides on smoothly and doesn’t seem to dry down like other lipsticks. Instead, I was surprised to find that my lips still felt soft after application, providing a matte finish with a satin-like feel. There also isn’t much transfer to glassware, in my experience, and I consider that a win.

YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE Superfood Cleanser, 30 ml - Retail Value $12.00

Or try the full size here.

I’ve been a fan of Youth to the People for years and have enjoyed a variety of products from the brand. I’m happy to say that this superfood cleanser is no different. Personally, I have combination skin that tends to be more on the oily side, and this works wonders for me. This cleanser leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean, effortlessly removing any trace of grease, grime, or makeup from the day, thanks to its incredible blend of kale, spinach, and green tea. If you have skin on the drier side, though, you might find this cleanser to do too good of a job, and in that case, I’d recommend following up with both an ultra-hydrating serum and moisturizer. I also really love the gel texture of this cleanser; nothing but good things to say about this product.

DITO Magic Feather Intense Volume Mascara, 4.2 g - Retail Value $11.99

Mascara is and has always been one of my go-to makeup staples when it comes to an everyday look. The first thing that caught my eye about this product is the intriguing name, ‘Magic Feather.’ It sounds like something you’d find in a fairytale. This mascara works well for me. When I applied it to my lashes for the first time, I was impressed by how smoothly the formula went on. It doesn't clump or smudge, and it’s very easy to create varying levels of intensity, from a natural, everyday look, to a dramatic, eye-catching gaze. I love the natural look it gives my eyelashes, plus the added volume that stays all day, and the smooth formula with no flaking is a huge bonus. Looks like I’ll be using this mascara until the very last drop.

Verdict

This was a great month for Ipsy Glam Bag! The highlight for me was absolutely Youth to the People’s superfood cleanser, which cleanses beautifully and efficiently removes all traces of the day. Dito’s Magic Feather mascara does a great job of adding volume to my lashes, and I appreciate that the formula doesn’t clump or smudge and is buildable, allowing for a variety of looks. The eyeshadow palette from Chella is a super convenient travel size palette for all of your neutral eye looks, and I’m thrilled to have another one of these for my makeup stash. The Shades of Shan lipstick in the shade ‘San Francisco’ is a perfect match for my skin tone, and it’s exactly what I need in an everyday lip color. Lastly, the BB cream for Purlisse Beauty… I wanted to love this, but unfortunately my skin is a bit too oily for me to benefit from this product, so I’ll be passing this along to a friend. Overall, I thought this was a really great bag. The product variety was nicely balanced between skincare and makeup, which I appreciate, and the value is there.

Love that YTTP cleanser! It is so good.

I unpaused for November a little too early and got an October bag, which wasn’t a big deal. I was kind of excited since it was unplanned, but a bit bummed when I ended up with two items from my Category Control list. I got a different bag too, but I was happy with that.

I’m getting November since it is my B-day month and I picked the candle, which I’m looking forward to!

Today opens choice. MSA hasn’t posted…

I chose the surmedic eye cream. 1/2 ounce is a pretty generous sample for an eye cream, although the full size is slightly over an ounce.
Looks like my October bag is lost 😕 along with a bunch of add-ons. Ipsy won’t do anything about it until Nov 4th.

Anyone know how to get in touch with ipsy? My October bag was tendered from DHL to USPS five days ago, and hasn’t moved since. I’m guessing it’s lost. The ipsy robot chat thing is just giving me generic replies.

I skipped this month as I didn’t want the eyeshadow and couldn’t justify the money for the rest, although I like what you got. I just skipped NOV to based to the sneak peeks. Haven’t had one I like in awhile.

I always get so confused when I see swatches by Megan but find out that the review wasn’t done by Megan.

I don’t think the swatches are Megan. They both just happen to have tattoos on their forearms.
