Add to Cart is a reader interest series that breaks down products and launches in beauty and skincare from your wish list. Has something caught your eye and preoccupied your desires? What products are you curious to learn more about? Let us know what's living on your wish list in the comments - each month, we'll select, buy, and review one product to see if it lives up to the hype!

Welcome to another round of Add to Cart! This month we will be tacking a product that caused a lot of drama on TikTok a few months ago. In fact, it caused so many waves that I have been actively avoiding it. Jones Road is a brand from the amazing Bobbi Brown after she cut ties with her namesake makeup label. That divorce itself was also full of a ton of drama because after her Bobbi Brown Beauty label was purchased by Estee Lauder, she was barred from creating any competitor lines for 25 years. That is a long time to wait! Much like Bobbi Brown Beauty, the new Jones Road is anchored in effortless formulas that enhance your natural beauty with minimal work. Think of Bobbi Brown as Glossier before there was Glossier. Needless to say, I have always loved her and I was excited to check out her foundation product. What made me wait? TikTok. Specifically, the following video:

@meredithduxburyI’m gonna have to pass….😭😅🥴♬ Love You So - The King Khan & BBQ Show

I am not going to dive too far into this or down the creator, but for someone like me, it seemed unfair. Despite having actually gorgeous naked skin, Meredith prefers to use lots of foundation. And while I am not personally into that, she always seems to enjoy the application and finished look. My issue is that her style of application just won't work with What The Foundation. Let's dive in!

The Product I Chose: Jones Road Beauty What the Foundation in Porcelain - $44

My Subscription Addiction paid for this product. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Formula

So this is not your typical foundation. It is best described as a foundation balm and she is RICH. Despite being thicker, this formula delivers light coverage (the site suggests light-medium but I disagree). You need very little of this to get coverage, which is exactly why Meredith is not the ideal customer. Who is? Well, the makeup minimalist who has dry skin. This formula is boosted with ingredients like jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, sunflower seed wax, and others that are really going to feel heavy on oilier skin. I had seen feedback that after application, this foundation felt sticky. And I think if you don't have dry skin, this is 100% going to be your experience. On my face, it settles down to a velvety dewiness that I am low-key obsessed with.

The Performance

What the Foundation on the left, naked skin on the right.

Please excuse this "I just woke up" selfie, but I wanted to start with the most sleepy, bare skin I could. I tried to apply the foundation to just one side of my face so you could see the subtle improvement this foundation brings. It hides my redness and gives me a nice glow that makes me look like I have been drinking enough water. I prefer sheer tinted foundations and BB/CC creams and this balm is exactly the sort of coverage I tend to really like. I also needed maybe 2 pea-sized dips to get coverage.

My Takeaway

I absolutely understand why this product is so polarizing. It is a very specific sort of foundation designed for a somewhat niche sort of customer. And if you are used to traditional foundations? This is going to be a whole new experience. Myself, I am in love with this stuff. It gives the right level of forgiving blur, adds luster to my dull skin, and actually seems to lock in moisture all day long. I have had zero issues with using cream or powder blush on top, and I find the fingertip application to be a total breeze.

Should You Buy Jones Road Beauty What the Foundation?

I feel like this portion needs a checklist:

  • You have drier skin
  • You want minimal coverage
  • You want a clean formula
  • You don't mind experimenting with fingertip application

If you love brands like Glossier for the effortless and incredibly cool vibes, Jones Road is her chic older sister. And for me, this line fills a few gaps that Glossier has.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I LOVE WTFoundation! But I go nuts when I see people use their fingers (and she put waaaay too much on, in that video)! Use a q-tip and roll the tip in the tub of product, almost in a stirring motion (1 time). And that is all you need! It covers my redness, and any blemishes or spots I have! Megan’s picture is a much more realistic representation than Meredith’s video! ❤️❤️

$44 for a sheer that doesn’t cover anything? Just for the fancy brand name? What’s the point? For a sheer that doesn’t cover anything, I’ll get a drugstore brand for $10. For $44, I expect a foundation that actually covers my melasma. But then, L’Oreal Infallible does exactly that for $10 as well.

It’s not sheer. It just looks sheer! It covers all my rosacea, blemishes, dark spots and all, with only a q-tip full!

I’ve been really wanting to try this- I’m going to grab it if there’s a Black Friday sale. What did you use to apply it?

I just used my fingers to apply this product.

Nice review, Megan! I have combination-oily skin. Well, it’s oily a lot of the time, but as I’ve gotten older, Ohio winters dry out my skin. I really like this product. It feels like I’m putting on a nice balm/cream instead of foundation. It’s a nice option.

Nice review; definitely not the foundation for me.

I vote for the Freck beauty lipstick as the next item to be reviewed.

Not sure why the divorce was full of drama. Surely, Bobbi Brown had her army of lawyers so over the sales contract with a fine tooth comb before she collected her $74.5 million. She continued to work for Estee as a creative consultant for 20 years after the sale.

I needed to hear this, thank you Megan. I wouldn’t touch this with a 10′ polo because that is how I was introduced. I have dry skin and can’t wait to try this now.
I’d love to see a review on the Makeout Lip blur or the Bom Dia scrub (of course).
Have you already bought that beautiful Miracle balm?? I’m changing my vote to the Miracle balm now that I checked it out.
