First Impressions
My typical white box arrives beautifully packaged.
Included were helpful cards and a booklet with loads of details about this True Botanicals box!
The Products
True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Vitamin A Booster, 60 capsules - Retail Value $120
My first product is a glass tub full of bright orange capsules. I can't remember the last time I received beauty capsules and though I love how cool they are, they can be a more time-consuming addition to my routine, and they can also be quite messy. The orange shade inside these is exactly the color of the formula inside too, so be extra mindful if you don't want it to end up on your sheets. These capsules have been formulated as an anti-aging alternative for those looking to use something more gentle than traditional retinol. I love the ingredients inside: apricot seed oil, sea buckthorn, rosehip, chia, and calendula. What I didn't love was the orange cast it left on my face, though after seeing sea buckthorn on that list I was expecting this. I found that mixing it with a moisturizer helped minimize this unwanted effect, but also made it more time-consuming. This isn't going to end up being a daily product for me, but I give Beauty Heroes props for sending us something unexpected and cool this month.
True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Vitamin A Sleep Mask, 50 mL - Retail Value $140
This mask shares many of the same ingredients of the capsules, without the extra mess. What I didn't love about this formula was the jello texture. It was difficult to scoop out of the pot and a lot more watery than creamy as I massaged it into my face. After it was absorbed, I didn't notice any real extra moisturizing powers, which I have come to expect from sleep masks. Instead of this being the last PM step, I decided to treat it as a pre-moisturizing step and finished off with a heavy night cream. I liked this so much more than just leaving it be. I did love how my face looked in the mornings after I applied this. It appeared less dull and had a certain firmness that I really appreciated. In addition to using retinol to target the signs of aging, it also has some seriously potent antioxidants like green tea, astaxanthin, and vitamin E, which help my skin protect itself from damaging free radicals. Though I was confused by the texture, the results of this one won me over.
Verdict
This month, my Beauty Heroes had a value of $260. Even though this wasn't my favorite curation from this box, the products inside were formulated beautifully and felt very high-end. And, despite the fact that I won't use those capsules regularly, how cool were they? As someone in her mid-30s, I am always looking for the next product to help me keep my face looking as smooth and youthful as I can while still aging gracefully. And the products inside this month were ideal for that sort of journey.
