First Impressions

This month’s theme is “It’s All About the Soft Life.” I’m interested to see what type of items have been selected for this particular curation, so let’s check it out.

Open Box for Cocotique October 2022

The contents of the box arrived protected by bubble wrap.

This month we received a tote bag with the phrase, "It's the soft life for me."

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Now, on to the items!

CREST Pro-Health Antibacterial Spray in Clean Mint, 13 ml - Retail Value $4.99

I’m a huge fan of mouthwash in its natural form. This breath spray from Crest is like having your very own travel version of mouthwash right in your pocket, purse, or car. I love this stuff for when I’m on-the-go and especially for long drives or flights. I used to be a fan of the Listerine strips but always found them to be a little too strong for my personal liking, so this spray is perfect. I definitely appreciate that they are alcohol-free and sugar-free, and they leave my mouth with that “just brushed” feeling I love so much. Of course, I would never consider this breath spray as a replacement for brushing my teeth, lol, but for those times when I have a long flight, this does the trick.

DIONIS Goat Milk Beauty Balm, 28 g - Retail Value $17.00

This beauty balm from Dionis is a multi-purpose goat milk balm that does it all. With all the natural benefits of goat milk, including protein, fat, iron, and many vitamins, this balm can be used to highlight cheekbones, moisturize lips, soothe cuticles, alleviate dry skin, and even tame flyaway hair. Now, I don’t know about you, but I personally don’t enjoy the idea of using something on my hair and then using the exact same product on my lips. I’m a fan of dual purpose products when it makes sense; but when it comes to a balm like this, I’ll likely reserve it for something specific. In my case, I’ll likely use it strictly as a lip balm. When I applied this to my lips, I was impressed with its hydrating power. If I apply too much, it can be slightly greasy, so use with caution; a little goes a long way, in my experience. It also has a delightful hint of coconut that I really enjoy.

THE HUMBLE CO. Plant-Based Floss Sticks in Mint, 50 pcs - Retail Value $3.99

I love a good floss pick! These are great to have on hand, and they work a hundred times better for me than regular floss. I love that these are partially made from plant-based materials (some of it is plastic) because it makes me feel less guilty about using disposable items and lowers my carbon footprint in the long run. The floss has a nice minty flavor to it that leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean. I especially appreciate that these picks are a 2-in-1 kind of deal, with a pointy pick at the end; perfect for wrangling that irritating popcorn kernel that’s stuck in my gums all the way at the back of my mouth. I’m thrilled to have these and will get great use out of them.

PALMER’S Olive Formula Super Control Gel for Edges, 64 g - Listed Value $9.25

I have wildly untamed baby hairs, so edge gel is a must-have, and if I do say so myself, I’m quite picky. That being said, I found this Palmer’s edge gel to be quite enjoyable to use. It’s easy to apply, and better yet, it doesn’t get stuck in the bristles of my edge styler brush, which is a huge plus. It smells pretty nice too; a bit like soap. Plus, after all-day wear, I didn’t experience any annoying flakes or residue. I was pretty impressed with the gel’s hold, and it worked nicely to smooth down my edges, keeping them in place. The formula is great too, with a blend of sage, nettle, and hyssop to help promote shiny, strong, healthy hair.

PALMER’S Coconut Oil Formula Cream Styler, 200 ml - Listed Value $7.95

Now, I have some great edge gel for my edges… But what about the rest of my hair? Oh, right, that’s where this cream styler from Palmer’s comes in. The product itself is great, and it has a delightful coconut scent. This styler leaves my curls bouncy and lively, providing a natural-looking, flexible hold. I use this especially when I need to tame frizz and flyaways but don’t want my hair left crunchy or hard. There’s no flaking whatsoever, even after hours of wear, and I’m a huge fan.

PALMER’S Cocoa Butter Daily Skin Therapy, 60 g - Listed Value $6.00

Ohhh, this stuff is great. It’s basically a concentrated lotion that targets dry spots and keeps you from looking ashy; perfect for your hands, elbows, knees, and anywhere else that can benefit from a punch of hydration. There’s a great scent to this product, and the texture is a luxurious, creamy cocoa butter. I love how smooth it feels on my skin and how quickly it absorbs, leaving my skin feeling silky and renewed. This product reminds me a bit of an eczema lotion, which (sad to say) I’m intimately familiar with. I’m happy to have this with my skincare especially with the winter weather closing in…

SUNNY ISLE Jamaican Black Castor Oil Infused with Chebe Powder, 118 ml - Retail Value $9.99

Castor oil of the past has been the bane of my existence. But I’m glad to say that this particular product from Sunny Isle, despite its potent blend of castor oil and chebe powder, doesn’t have much of a scent, which I appreciate immensely. I’m excited because using castor oil works wonders on my hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows. I also really appreciate the company’s use of a tinted bottle; super important for protecting the product inside. So far I’ve used this on my hair, and after rinsing out with shampoo, my curls were noticeably softer and definitely more hydrated, with no lingering stench.

PROBIORA HEALTH The First Probiotics for Oral Care, 30 pcs - Retail Value $19.95

I’m always a bit suspicious when it comes to random supplements. This probiotic supplement by Probiora Health has been crafted specifically to fill your mouth with good bacteria, overrunning the bad bacteria. Although I likely will pass this along to a supplement-loving friend of mine (plus, I already take a prescribed probiotic from my doctor), the overall idea is great. I love that it’s made with all-natural ingredients, including natural peppermint and spearmint for flavor enhancement. You simply take one of these chewable minty probiotics before bed and let the tablet work its magic, targeting the root cause of bad breath and ultimately helping to improve oral health.

Verdict

I thought this was a good month for Cocotique! The highlight for me was definitely The Humble Co.’s floss sticks, along with Crest’s breath spray. I love how this box has a focus on self-care, particularly oral care, which is not very common to see in a subscription box. Although I appreciate the idea behind the oral care supplements from Probiora Health, I’ll be passing the rest of these along to a friend who is sure to enjoy them. Dionis brought us their luxurious beauty balm, which I chose to use primarily as a lip balm, and I am loving the extreme hydration. Plus, Palmer’s skin therapy lotion leaves my skin feeling silky and smooth; perfect for the winter months. The castor oil and chebe powder combo blend from Sunny Isle helps to inspire hair growth, which is nice to have in my arsenal. Lastly, Palmer’s edge gel and cream styler are two products that are important for hair care and great additions to this month’s curation. Overall, I thought this was a really nice box, and the value was absolutely there.
