Allure Beauty Box is a $23 monthly beauty subscription from Allure Magazine. Each month they send out a mix of deluxe and full-size samples from mostly high-end brands. (It was named one of the best beauty subscription boxes by MSA readers in the 2022 Subscription Box Awards.)
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
The box arrives beautifully packaged in the classic Allure white and red box.
There was also a helpful mini-magazine with more info on the products and a note from Allure's deputy beauty director Elizabeth Siegel.
What's Inside the December 2022 Allure Beauty Box
This month we received this sample from Emuaid.
New subscribers received this Sunday Riley 5 Stars Retinol + Niacinamide Eye Serum.
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Nettle, 150 mL - Retail Value $20
Klorane is a popular dry shampoo brand, and this is their version designed for those with more oily hair and scalps. I don't use dry shampoo regularly, and on the rare occasions I do use it I wouldn't describe my scalp as oily. I've actually given a bottle of this to my sister before, though, and she liked that it didn't leave any visible residue and helped to extend her blowout an extra day or two before she had to wash her hair.
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick in Werk, 3 g - Estimated Value $11 (buy the 6 g version for $22)
I have been resistant to the cream makeup trend but it feels like the trend is slowly creeping onto my makeup vanity anyways. This two-in-one comes in a convenient stick that you can apply to both your cheek and lips, and it has a blendable formula that you can sheer out or build up for a soft wash of color on your cheeks and lips.
Static Nails Liquid Glass Lacquer in Coconut, 12 mL - Retail Value $16
This nail polish is made with rosehip and marula oil, and it's designed to promote healthy nail growth while still being a long-lasting nail varnish when paired with a base and top coat. I haven't painted my nails in years, and if I did decide to ditch my gel nail strips I don't see myself reaching for this milky shade. This was actually a variant item this month. I forgot to pause my personal subscription, and in my second box I got the Curved French Round Pop-On Manicure. The fake nails are a little more my speed (with a good chance I am actually going to use them when the occasion calls for it and my natural nails aren't longer than the fake ones), and I like the curved design of the white french tips.
By Rosie Jane Rosie Perfume Oil, 7 mL - Retail Value $45
This is a really beautiful perfume oil. While I prefer sprays to rollerballs, I can't deny the convenience of the packaging nor that a rollerball makes sense for applying an oil. It has scent notes of sweet rose and musk, and it's definitely a skin perfume enhanced with florals. I went wedding dress shopping this past weekend, and I brought this in my carry on along with two sample sprays that I layered on top on the different days and it was perfect for the experience.
Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum, 0.14 oz - Estimated Value $6.30 (buy the 1 oz version for $45)
I am not crazy about the Mario Badescu brand, but the ingredients list on this serum is a lot more likeable compared to some of their other products. My skin is really picky with vitamin C products, though, so I ended up testing this out on my chest and the back of my hands. I didn't love the way this smelled, but I didn't find it to leave a tacky finish and it layered well under moisturizer. Notable ingredients include two different forms of ascorbate acid, ginseng, collagen, and hyaluronic acid.
Whish Lip Pink Champagne Lip Balm, 15 mL - Retail Value $24
I've tried this lip balm before, and I think it's a pretty solid one. It has a lightweight formula that still makes my lips feel soft, and the moisturizing balm gives my lips a bit of a glossy finish. This is another item that was a variant, and my personal subscription came with the Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask that has a much more thick, vaseline-like texture compared to this one.

Key Takeaways
I thought that this month's Allure Beauty Box was a solid one, and a good way to round out the year. While I don't personally really use nail polish or dry shampoo, I know that I am kind of in the minority on that so I don't begrudge Allure for sending them-especially since they're from established brands sold at places like Ulta and Nordstrom. The By Rosie Jane perfume oil was the star of the month for me, and if you feel the same way you'll feel like you got a great deal considering the perfume is worth about double the subscription box cost. This month's box had a good overall value with everything adding up to $122.30, which exceeds Allure's promised value of being a box worth more than $100.
