First Impressions
This month included an activity sheet and a welcome sheet introducing this month's contents. This month's activity is "Share books with little libraries near you." Little Free Libraries lack diversity and inclusion in their selections, so you if you have the means, it is important to share books with different cultures and identities in these fantastic resources.
I absolutely love this additional sticker activity this month. I am going to ask Ronan to color it for me, and I'd love to frame it and hang it in the house. The stickers are extremely cute with important messaging, and I am fighting the urge to hoard them for a rainy day.
What's Inside This Box
I'll Build You a Bookcase by Jean Ciborowski Fahey - Listed Value $10.95
This book has adorable illustrations, and the message throughout, I'll have to admit, made me shed a tear or two. I find so much joy in doing tasks, however big or small, for my kiddos, and just thinking back to something as simple as providing Ro a home for his books made me feel perhaps a little too emo. This book has a range of different family types and colors of skin. There is also a Vietnamese translation provided for each page. I couldn't find the softcover online to purchase, but the hardcover is available here.
I Love Us: A Book About Family by Luisa Uribe – Retail Value $8.99
This book is all about the activities a family does together that are enjoyable for the entire family, whether it is cooking breakfast or having a dance party before bedtime. This book also does a fantastic job with inclusivity, and I love the little mirror page towards the end that reflects the babe and whoever he/she is partaking in the reading. This book is fun, colorful, and really a pleasure to look at and read.
Discussion Questions
Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book. The messages this month revolve around reading and families which goes hand in hand. I loved seeing all the different types of families portrayed in each of this month's selections, and of course, reading is always a fun experience that can teach a child a lot about herself and the book's subject, of course.
Verdict
Little Feminist Book Club had excellent picks for this month. I loved turning the pages of each of these books, and it was fun seeing Ronan's (and Winnie's!) reactions to the mirror page in I Love Us. The value of this month's picks comes to $19.94, not quite hitting the mark of the cost of this subscription.
After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you're someone who doesn't mind paying the price for excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't always monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.
