Opening The Box

It's Winter with the Margot Elena Subscription Box—hooray, hooray! This season's box isn't explicitly holiday-themed per se, but since it's arriving in time for holiday gifting planning, I have been looking forward to it with great anticipation and a sense of festiveness. The items are always wrapped with tissue paper so unpacking them is a sweet surprise.

Here's a look at the folded info card for this quarter. Inside, they do set the tone for the season by nodding to joyful celebrations and finding your moments of peace throughout. Listed, you'll see there are products included from Lollia, TokyoMilk, Infinite She, and a category they just indicate as Margot Elena (but included is a Cottage Greenhouse item).

Here's What's Inside

Lollia In Love Eau de Parfum, 3.4 oz — Retail Value $68

Prior to subscribing to this box I associated Margot Elena lines with their luscious hand cremes. Now that I've been part of the club for over a year, I look forward most to their quality perfumes. I've now received a good many that have entered my regular rotation, but this one is the most impressive of all. First of all, the bottle itself is wide and weighty, and with its tasteful floral design on top it seems meant to be displayed on a dresser or vanity. As always with this brand, the In Love scent defies any boxes, and is an ever-evolving blend of aromas that touch on floral and jasmine and so much more. I've received the In Love scent in the form of body wash and a candle before, but here in perfume form it is so dynamic, it's my favorite version of the scent yet.

Exclusive! Mini Lollia Wish Dusting Powder — Listed Value $22 (Buy the full-size for $46)

Here's another one that would be beautiful to display—though, of course, the hallmark of Margot Elena items is how elegantly they're packaged, so really that could apply to anything in this box. This cardboard container is filled with shimmer-free and talc-free dusting powder in the Wish scent, and a small bow-topped powder puff to apply it with. My understanding is that this is simply another way to apply a scent, but the tactical experience and romantic concept of it is so sweet and exciting! My four-year-old daughter was drawn to it immediately, and while I don't have her wearing perfume at this age, the Wish scent is gentle enough—and subtle enough in this powder form—that I don't mind her keeping it on her dresser and using in her playful exploration. This size is exclusive to the box, but Margot Elena does sell larger dusting powders on their site.

Exclusive! TokyoMilk Eclipse Candle, 6 0z — Listed Value $20

This box has been sprinkling scents from the TokyoMilk Dark line in for us, and they take on deeper aromas that some might call more unisex, or even more traditionally masculine. This Eclipse candle is rather musky and amber-y, though with faint floral hints of gardenia and other dimensions. The soy candle is poured into a black tin. These Dark scents fit nicely into the larger line—I didn't notice that scents of this nature were missing initially, and they don't impress me as much as the classic TokyoMilk line, but now that they're offered, I do see that they fill a hole. I'm not sure yet whether I'll keep this candle to enjoy or gift it!

Exclusive! TokyoMilk Pure Decadence Sea Salt, 7.5 oz — Listed Value $18

Back to the classic TokyoMilk line I mentioned just above, we have these bath salts in the Golden Hour scent. They're poured in a paper bag and enclosed in a reusable tin—oh what things will I store in here in the future? The possibilities delight me! While for the most part I prefer my bath products to be more naturally botanical, I'm truly looking forward to submerging myself in the fresh, citrusy, complex goodness of this familiar one.

Infinite She Ultra Lush Hand Cream, Fearless, 2.3 fl oz — Retail Value $22

Infinite She scents feel youthful to me, and this hand cream is no exception. The scent is fruity but in a tasteful way: there's mango in there, and as with most Margot Elena scents, there are hints of florals as well. The "I am fearless" text boldly printed on the side of the box is an awesome affirmation for a young person, and something I know I would've connected with in my teens and early twenties. I'm also pleased to report that the lid has a point in the center of it, so you can break the seal on the tube with ease!

Infinite She Holiday Greeting Cards: Sleigh All Day, HNY 2023, and Sparkle & Shine — Retail Value $5.50 each

My wishes have come true! Last month I had stated that I hope this box takes a break from sending their vintage-inspired greeting cards and sends us something from the Infinite She card line, because they're just a little more exciting and more my card-giving style (which is to say, louder). All three of these greeting cards have a metallic element to their front, and they're blank inside. There's one Christmas-themed card, one New Year greeting card specific to 2023, and one that could be used for either or saved for another occasion. They're wonderful!

Exclusive! Beauty Within Tote Bag — Listed Value $22

I have so many reusable tote bags collected, but this one is more exciting than any of them! It's fully color-printed with vibrant pinks, chartreuse, and red. Its floral pattern has an embroidered outline. And inside it has a small pocket. It would make a wonderful gift bag that could be reused regularly.

The Cottage Greenhouse Lemon & Aloe Hand Sanitizer, 8 oz — Retail Value $14

Finally, we were sent this large bottle of hand sanitizer. Its bright lemon scent feels fitting for a hand sanitizer, and of course, it's not without a bit of an alcohol scent too, but that part dissipates as you rub your hands together. We were sent a large hand sanitizer in summer of 2021 (see here), which I plopped right on the credenza by my front door, and actually it's still about halfway full. I keep smaller bottles of hand sanitizer in my purse and car, and tend to wash my hands in the sink when I get home, so it doesn't get used super frequently, but if I were working in an office I think I would be going through it way more quickly. If that were the case, I think this refill bottle would be coming at the perfect time. The previous bottle had a pump dispenser, which could be reused in this bottle, but if you don't have one of those, you would just click this open and turn it over into your hand to dispense.

Value Breakdown: This quarter's Margot Elena Box brought us a beautiful spread of products for gifting and keeping for self-care this season. It included 4 exclusive products, in either sizes or scents that you won't find on the site or in stores. There were a total of 8 products (considering the 3 cards as 1 item) in this quarter's box, which add up to a listed value of $202.50. Both that amount of items and that total are typical for this box, and they always feel like both the perfect amount and a wonderful deal. The value breaks down to $8.37 per item, which is especially astounding for the glorious $68 bottle of In Love perfume this month!

Key Takeaways

The Winter Margot Elena Subscription Box spread felt just-right for this season. They offered their usual broad selection of items across their lines and their site, including some really special things like the large In Love perfume and the Wish powder mini. I can see myself keeping some of these things for myself, and gifting others—I'm thinking I'll gift the Eclipse candle and the tote bag. I typically pass Infinite She items along, but I was pleasantly surprised by the scent of the Fearless cream this time around. The only thing I could potentially see as missing this quarter would be a giant tub of body butter for the dry season, but regular Margot Elena subscribers will likely have one already going from previous deliveries.

If anyone’s interested, full spoilers for spring have been released. It should include: Lollia body butter, Lollia shower gel, Library of Flowers hand cream, Cottage Greenhouse body scrub, Library of Flowers fragrance in Honeycomb, a matching set of spatula and tea towel, and a couple of cards. Pretty solid box.

Jennifer

I am super excited for the tea towel – I loved the quality of the last tea towel we got in one of the boxes a while back. The spatuala is cute, too!

If those are full spoilers it seems a tad light on item number, but the quality is certainly there since we are getting a fragrance and two kitchen items. Plus it’s unusual (in a good way!) to get a box that doesn’t heavily feature the Tokyo Milk line. (Nothing against Tokyo Milk, I just also want to try her other brands, too!)

I’m hoping we get another soap dish in a future box, since my kids broke the last one.

I finally received my box today. Disappointed the hand sanitizer, while not expired, will expire in less than three months. Feels like they are trying to get rid of old merchandise. Also, the dusting powder is teeny tiny. The rest of the items are fine. The perfume smells nice. The hand cream and bath salts will be regifted. I have to remember to use the 2023 greeting card soon. Not exactly something I can save for next year.

I just checked and my sanitizer expires in 3 months also. Definitely trying to get rid of old stock. : (

Instead of the bag ($22) they should have put in a Lollia or Library of Flowers Shower Gel ($23). In the past two boxes they’ve included no soaps. Honestly I feel ripped off, I know everything else meets it’s retail value if purchasing separately but it’s just disappointing.

I would’ve loved a soap or shower gel, too, Stefanie. And like I said in the review I would’ve also loved a body butter. The tote is cute but not feeling like as much of a score as some of that other stuff tends to!

This is the first box that I really wasn’t a fan of at all. I found the dusting powder, while a great idea, to be too small to use properly so it feels a prop. The tote bag wasn’t anything special and I just felt the box lacked it’s usually glamour.

Christen R

Interesting point about the dusting powder feeling like a prop. My four-year-old daughter’s immediate draw to it, and my immediate “sure, this can be yours” response is telling…I wouldn’t have said that about something that felt really high value.

My trust is destroyed by the winter 2022 content. If Spring 2023 is not as it should be, will cancel..

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one really disappointed in this box (I originally thought I was being too picky). The contents, to me, come off as though someone was in a rush and ran through the warehouse and threw random stuff into a box. I usually love these boxes- this one was a definite NO GO!

I can barely put my iPad and cover into the tote.

My sanitizer expired july 2022

Ugh. That’s disappointing. Makes me wonder how old the other stuff in the box is. My box is due to arrive on Monday. If my sanitizer is expired, I’ll contact them to make it right.

Every quarter I say one more time. It will be better next time but alas it has not happened. The spring box will be my last if a lotion of any kind or a hand sanitizer is in that box. It has become a same old, same old subscription box.

I never really write reviews but I wholeheartedly agree with Kelly’s comment below the box has gone down in its allure for me specifically for the rate increase not that long ago. I used to look forward to it and found many of my staple favorites through the box.
My hand sanitizer actually came with a pump it’s the same that we got in 2021 but it spilled all over in the bag and box lucky it didn’t damage anything else as everything was individually wrapped. However, it has been one of my least favorite items ever as it is oddly a very sticky hand sanitizer I keep it by my front door and everyone that has used it has made a comment. I am also not a fan of the infinite she line they do not feel as luxe as the other lines and remind me of creams you find in the target dollar spot. The infinite she cards also feel of a lesser quality definitely not worth the stated retail price and the tote bag also just seems like a bonus but not a practical item as most people for go out an purchase a tote like this when you can either find it cheaper or likely already have tons. I miss the days when we had large luminaries, soaps and shower gels. All that being said I was excited for the Lollia perfume.

Christen R

I agree about the unusual consistency of the hand sanitizer! I also agree that I hope to see some more large luminaries, soaps, and shower gels in future boxes!

I skipped this one for financial reasons, and am glad I did. While it looks nice enough, I usually justify getting this box because things like the shower gel and lotion replace items I would buy anyway. Of the whole box this time, only the hand cream qualifies. Very pretty, though.

My box is still in transit and I can’t wait for it! I’ve been wanting to try Classic Petal. It’s so exciting that is it in the box. I’m also elated that the hand sanitizer refill is coming. Mine is almost out on my desk at work and i will be able to fill it right back up. The tote is useful for groceries. The powder is a fun idea though I might forget to use it. Candles are always good. The rest is not as exciting but I do think this will be a good box for me. I do wish we had gotten an apron though! Haha

Hmm I just noticed my confirmation email said I’ll be receiving the Fall box (I had skipped it). They better be sending me the Winter box…

My favorite scent of Margot Elenas is in love so I am happy. I have been subscribed since the 1st box and I am so excited that the brought the special items back.❤

Kelly

I love Margot Elena! Love! But I’m less enamored with this quarter’s box because several of the items are just meh to me – and usually with Margot Elena I’m 100% thrilled! A tote bag shouldn’t count in the value; that’s more like a freebie. And in my opinion the giant words stamped on it ruin the look of the roses. Plus raise your hand if you need yet another tote bag. Anyone? Ha. Then – Like most people, I’m up to my ears in hand sanitizer and especially don’t want one with a flip top. I don’t have a bath tub for a salt soak – HOWEVER, I’ll use it as a foot soak – so it’s a SAVE! Yay! The Lollia scent is nice, but the big square bottle is awkward. The powder makes me cough. Smells nice, though. Lastly, I was wishing and hoping for a shower gel, soap or body wash since we didn’t get one last month. Oh well, it’s still a good sub box and what doesn’t get used will get passed on. After all, it’s gift giving time!

Reply ButtonReply

Beth Lazzelle

I wish infinite she would shuffle off the sub coil. It’s so unattractive in such an otherwise beautiful box.

Reply ButtonReply

Christen R

I have to agree I’m not ever super pumped to see Infinite She stuff in my box. The cards being the exception, because the vintage-inspired ones were feeling like the “same old” month after month. This was the first month I actually liked the scent of the Infinite She lotion enough to keep the lotion for myself, but even as I was putting it in my bag I had a moment of hesitance thinking of how not-luxurious it will feel to use day to day by comparison to the other Margot Elena lines!

Reply ButtonReply

Kelly

I think what’s keeping it going is the stuff does smell nice despite the terribly branding/packaging. I reach for my roller ball once a week. It’s like the opposite of Harvey Prince.
